Default PS3 Sales Surpass the X Box 360 & the Wii in America

For the week ended Feb 23, 2008 (American Sales) PS3 94,106, Wii 78,975, and the X Box 360 87,569. (Total Sales):PS3 177,387, Wii 230,921, and the X Box 360 134,284. I am sure that there are some that will believe that VG Chartz is NOT the most reliable to source. I welcome any other links to further discuss the issue.

Well, the PS3 is finally getting the respect it deserves. So much for fads and a conglomerate of shooters. lol

Its a shame the games are struggling to sell..

Look at Uncharted, still hasnt hit 500k, ratchet is barely above 400k.

Heavenly sword is barely above 300k.

Need to get some damn games.

hopefully army of two will help out.

I'd love to buy more games but when they're almost $60 a pop I can't justify the price. I just rent them or buy em used on ebay after they've been released for a few months.

word, I love playing games but I can't justify the price, at least for now... even as much as I liked playing uncharted, it was fun and overall beautiful game. I rented it and beat in 4 days, playing 2 hrs avg a day, 60 bucks is just too much..

I hate posts like these because the analysis is so weak. The game sales are perfectly in-line with the install base as compared to 360. Also use global figures and not just the U.S., which is skewed to FPS. Globally Uncharted is over 1MM.

You can expect software sales to be inline with current week hardware sales... they will track to overall install base. Take the ratio of install base (PS3 divided by 360) then multiply that by the 360 sales of the same game to get an expected PS3 volume. Don't compare nominal sales.

Also sales so not equate to sales volumes for almost anything in life. Music... nope - people buy lightweight pop crap. Movies... nope - wake me when No Country For Old Men passes Spidey 3. TV... please. Games... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Burnout Paradise is an excellent and extremely fun game, but sales have been borderline dismal. If you think quality equates to sales volume then go buy a 360 and play Halo 3 with all of your new friends. I'll just enjoy things that I know are good without regard for populist approval, if that's alright with everyone.

You have to put things into perspective though.

Uncharted has sold 1.5 million world wide. Ratchet has sold over 800k worldwide and so has Heavenly Sword.

When you look at X360 games selling 1-2 million units in the US you have to understand they also have 3 times the PS3 installed base. To be fair you should look at it as a % of customers that buy the games (units sold / user base).

for example, that 500k units sold for Uncharted is actually equivalent in populartity of an X360 title selling 1.5 million units (US only I'm talking about). The installed base means EVERYTHING. That's why X360 dropping in sales is very signficant.

Those are NA only sales. Worldwide, Uncharted is well past a million, and R&C and HS are both over 800k.

correct I was just going to say that uncharted is past 1 million, and believe it or not I believe pre-orders for killzone 2 are at 1.5 currently as well. So if someone is 'still" using north american sales they are incorrect for the true global sales numbers. Plus outside of the us ps3 and wii are the "big" sales leaders not the 360.

There were rumors of upcoming shortages for the 360, but those never materialized. The PS3 is rising, and it will be the dominant system by year's end. I remember in October the PS3was selling around 30K a week, and those sales have tripled. Blu-ray victory will only help PS3 sales and vice versa. The Wii is a fad that will soon fade away.

360 shortages will NEVER happen. MS massively offer stuffs retailer channels. Maybe the odd store here and there, but any store can sell out of anything at any given time.

Indeed, finding 360's is easy - finding ones that work properly is another matter. I had one occasionally - the games were plentiful but overwhelmingly average, it was really noisy and I was scared to use it in case it broke again. Kinda defeats the object really.

The wii is going to reach saturation point soon - then the 2nd hand market will be flooded when people realise they've just spent £170 on a Gamecube with a new controller and that there are hardly any games worth buying - yes, I have one!

The PS3 has the most potential as a games console, unfortunately the market caters mostly for the lowest common denominator, so pickings are slim.

Yea, that's why industry analysts are predicting Wii shortages through December of this year. Nintendo is producing these machines hand over fist and they continue to fly off shelves. How does that support the idea of a quick fade away?

Plus the looming 100 lbs. gorilla, Wii Fit which has already sold 1,000,000 in Japan in just a few months of release is headed for US shores as are Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers, both HUGE franchises that sell in the millions. Again, no sign of a slow down in high profile games. Wii continues to outsell the other console gaming systems and shows no signs of slowing. Anyone talking off Wii quickly fading into memory is merely hoping.

It may not have BD playback or HD games, but Wii has been dominating since it's release. You may not like it, but you can't deny it's success.
