PS3 is going to do just fine, I foresee it overtaking 360 this year and the wii next year.

The new PS3 80gb pack with MGS4 and a DualShock @ $499 is probably going to sell like crazy

I like the Blu Ray logo on the box too

360 shortages will NEVER happen. MS massively offer stuffs retailer channels. Maybe the odd store here and there, but any store can sell out of anything at any given time.

If you want a Blu-ray player right now, then you buy a PS3. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I bought my PS3 solely for it's BD capabilities and the ability to act as a media hub so I can watch HD downloads on my 46" Sammy. I have one game that I played maybe twice. The rest of my games are all on the Xbox 360. While the PS3 excels for BD and multimedia, it falls flat for gaming. Just look at those pathetic game sales for proof of that.
You are the minority, guaranteed.

Its a well known fact that the majority of PS3 owners dont watch bluray movies at all. On top of that id wager anything that most PS3 owners that do watch BDs also play games.

I know you guys may think I'm crazy but I really do believe MLB Da Show 08 and really Army of Two will help more than a lot expect.

MLB the show 08 will be a fantastic game (baseball season approaching) and Army of Two really does show some promise and actually may be as successful as COD4. Think I'm crazy all you want but that game really does look good.

Dualshock will be the icing on the cake.

Im not a baseball fan by any means, but I do agree that MLB the show will help a lot if its as good as it seems. Whens the last time another system had such a hyped exclusive SPORTS title??

I'm not sure if randall is in the minority, well at least on this site.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=39500

The poll does show 80.45% use the PS3 as both for games and Blu-rays. According to the comments of those people, they only use the PS3 for gaming about 20% of the time.

Indeed, finding 360's is easy - finding ones that work properly is another matter. I had one occasionally - the games were plentiful but overwhelmingly average, it was really noisy and I was scared to use it in case it broke again. Kinda defeats the object really.

The wii is going to reach saturation point soon - then the 2nd hand market will be flooded when people realise they've just spent £170 on a Gamecube with a new controller and that there are hardly any games worth buying - yes, I have one!

The PS3 has the most potential as a games console, unfortunately the market caters mostly for the lowest common denominator, so pickings are slim.

I'd love to buy more games but when they're almost $60 a pop I can't justify the price. I just rent them or buy em used on ebay after they've been released for a few months.

word, I love playing games but I can't justify the price, at least for now... even as much as I liked playing uncharted, it was fun and overall beautiful game. I rented it and beat in 4 days, playing 2 hrs avg a day, 60 bucks is just too much..

This is only a taste of things to come. The release of big games like GT5, MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, etc. are going to sale more consoles for actual gaming. By Q4, I think you'll see the PS3 within 2-4 million consoles of the 360 worldwide and a huge boost in game sales. The awesome new PS3 bundles are definitely going to push more PS3's off the shelves.

PS3 is definitely the hottest console now, and the 2008 lineup and strategy seems like things are only going to get better throughout the year.

with blu-ray winning, it puts the wii, and 360 in check, with the titles coming in the next year and a half, puts the 360 in checkmate

Indeed, I completely agree. But I stopped in June. I think if we go as far as November then we should include two of the biggest and most anticipated games Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet.

First off, I don't trust VGChartz numbers, but since NPD has made everyone not able to publish their numbers, there isn't anything to dispute it with.

Secondly, I do expect the PS3 to overtake the 360 this year.

I'm with you on this. I bought it mainly for BD and rarely ever play games. What games I do play are generally jsut the free demos. That being said, I do plan on picking up a few this year. GTA 4 and one of the EA games (bad company or army of two). Can't say anything else really interests me though.

I plan on picking up at least 2 Wii titles that I know of, and most likely more. For me, the Wii is a much better gaming console. There is a lot of crap, but what's good is great and I'm tired of playing the same stuff over and over again with jsut better graphics.

And to all those talking about Wii hitting a saturation point, take a look at the DS. That thing still sells like 500K every month. You'd think everyone who wants one would have one by now, but it's not the case, and I don't see Wii sales really slowing down for a while still. This is of course assuming Nintendo has some games planned for the second half of the year.

EDIT - and this thread reminds me of something HD-DVD guys would be talking about. Thinking that winning one week (which they never did manage to do last year) would somehow mean an ongoing trend. It's just one week and there's a long year ahead. Let's not jump the gun too much.

I hate posts like these because the analysis is so weak. The game sales are perfectly in-line with the install base as compared to 360. Also use global figures and not just the U.S., which is skewed to FPS. Globally Uncharted is over 1MM.

You can expect software sales to be inline with current week hardware sales... they will track to overall install base. Take the ratio of install base (PS3 divided by 360) then multiply that by the 360 sales of the same game to get an expected PS3 volume. Don't compare nominal sales.

Also sales so not equate to sales volumes for almost anything in life. Music... nope - people buy lightweight pop crap. Movies... nope - wake me when No Country For Old Men passes Spidey 3. TV... please. Games... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Burnout Paradise is an excellent and extremely fun game, but sales have been borderline dismal. If you think quality equates to sales volume then go buy a 360 and play Halo 3 with all of your new friends. I'll just enjoy things that I know are good without regard for populist approval, if that's alright with everyone.

Yeah, another idiot who can't perform basic analysis. Look at the sales in regard to a % of the installed base. PS3 unit sales track right along with 360 software sales. Idiot.
