I'm sure that those sales are boosted by the fact that the PS3 is far and away the best Blu-ray player for your money at this point in time, and is the only one in the sub $1000 price range that is guaranteed to have BD-Live capability at some point. If you want a Blu-ray player right now, then you buy a PS3. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I bought my PS3 solely for it's BD capabilities and the ability to act as a media hub so I can watch HD downloads on my 46" Sammy. I have one game that I played maybe twice. The rest of my games are all on the Xbox 360. While the PS3 excels for BD and multimedia, it falls flat for gaming. Just look at those pathetic game sales for proof of that.

Lack of game sales doesn't mean the game suck, it just means people don't buy them.
For the most part, I say they're missing out.

Anyone who's been following along with the PS brand since PS1 and PS2 days would agree with me that PS3 is also a great gaming console as well. Truly it is.

People not buying games does NOT mean the game suck. Or the system suck for that matter.

Example, if someone don't buy Lord of the Ring, does that mean the movie suck? No.

Microsoft can say all they want about shortages. I went to three best buys in my area and they had one PS3. Talk about a shortage. Where are these things?

I never said anything about the sames sucking at all, you missed my point. I was saying that the PS3 falls flat as a gaming console. Nobody is buying the games! That could be for any number of reasons, but I think the most obvious reason out there is that people are not buying the PS3 for its gaming abilities! Just look at some of the commercials for the PS3. Sony isn't even marketing the damn thing as a gaming console, they're marketing it as a Blu-ray player. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrpfxvQKp_M holy crap that commercial didn't show jack squat about the games! Sony is marketing this as a Blu-ray player, and that is how it is selling.

Well, now that the format war is over, they better start promoting the PS3 more as a gaming console. I mean, with big hits coming out this year, it should stop falling flat. There are a ton of exclusive games coming to PS3 this year. Although it is selling as a Blu-ray player for now, but I think it'll grow as a gaming console as well from here on out.

And sorry for missing your point.

You're probably right, since the 360 did get a head start on game sales, it would make sense at this point for PS3 game sales to be behind. Plus people like me who bought the PS3 just for Blu-ray may find themselves picking up some of the best PS3 exclusive titles, I mean might as well since we own the console and Blu-ray winning the war is a nice bonus. I think once the dual-shock controller comes out in the US next month things may pick up more too.

PS3 is going to do just fine, I foresee it overtaking 360 this year and the wii next year.

The new PS3 80gb pack with MGS4 and a DualShock @ $499 is probably going to sell like crazy

I like the Blu Ray logo on the box too

VGchartz isnt exactly the most accurate site, nor do I think weekly numbers are significant. You'd have to look at more of a trend

heck yeah, you better believe it!!! Sony is acting very smart and the shitbox should learn from this, Sony is releasing the new 80 gig PS3 with the metal gear solid and dual shock 3, Hell the best the shitbox came up with was the halo edition but NO halo???? WTF come on microsoft!!!! Hell we couldn't sell those halo 360 edition if our lives depended on it. This is why sony will keep leading in sales, even with the PSP and the blood red edition and god of war.

Little by little, the term that 2008 will be PS3's year is starting to ring true.

Putting aside the PS3 for the moment: I personally I think due to the console performance that the Wii is a more respectable system then the 360.

I personally think the PS3 will outsell the 360 worldwide this year(not so sure about the Wii but who cares) in Europe and Japan(of course) and eventually(hopefully) in America. The 360's lineup consists of Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Too Human, Alan Wake, Boojoo Kanjoo 3, and Gears Of War 2 being there biggest title. Though the other games will appeal to most 360 owners, I am not too sure they will be big system sellers like Gears Of War 1 and Halo 3 were. The PS3 has too many exclusives this year that if only have of them were AAA or good, it would still have more exclusives. With a possible $299 40GB SKU this year and a MGS4 bundle, the PS3 will obviously sell much better than it did last year. The PS3 this year has games that cover most genres.

KillZone 2, Resistance 2, Haze(though I doubt its quality) for shooters
SOCOM:Confrontation for tactical shooters
MGS4 for stealth action
GT5:Prologue, MotorStorm 2 for racing
White Knight Story, Final Fantasy XIII(hopefully) for RPGs
Disgaea 3, Valkyrie Of The Battlefield for tactical RPGs
Infamous for action adventure
Tekken 6 for fighters
Little Big Planet for mass appeal
Afrika, Singstar for casual gaming

I expect 5 to 6 million for America and 5 to 6 million for Europe with 3.5 million for Japan.

This is only my opinion, so you don't have to agree.

So, in the US the Wii had a good week and the PS3 had a bad one, how does that make vgchartz bogus?

Xbox 360: 102,622 (+17%)
PS3: 89,585 (-5%)

Worldwide, the PS3 was 2nd

All I have to say is that it amuses me to hear Microsoft's excuse regarding XBox 360 shortages accounting for the increased sales of PS3s when in fact, all of my local electronics retailers have ample supply of XBox 360's!!! They know that the XBox 360's life cycle has already reached its climax and is going downhill now!

I would agree that the 360 has lost most of its luster while the PS3 is in the upswing. With the huge PS3 game exclusives coming soon and Blu-ray's victory, the PS3 is poised to emerge as the winner of the console war.

Actually, VGChartz should NEVER be taken seriously. It is a estimate that is OFTEN wrong. Even HMM employees have warned against depending on it. I believe only the software sales in the US are accurate (if that).

The PS3 is going to be the center for all my entertainment needs...I box vs. more on the shelf is much better for me.

I think it's in response of all the mud and false information that has been thrown from the MS and their 360 fans. Now, it's time for I told you so(s) and other forms of ridicule. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

I know. Are they forgetting that the PS3 ACTUALLY has shortages? The 80GB PS3s have been unavailable for some time now in B&M stores.

I seriously doubt that Sony has to do any marketing around the PS3 being a gaming console. With the past successes of the PS1 and PS2, I would be genuinely surprised if anyone in the free world heard the name PS3 and didn't immediately think of GAMESGAMESGAMES, instead of CD playback or DVD playback.

If anything, the general masses needed to be corrected to stop thinking GAMESGAMESGAMES and to start thinking KICASSGAMESKICASSGAMESKICASSGAMES.
