Talking Blu Ray and Divx have nothing in common!!

Ive read several posts from HD lovers who have nothing to do but try to bash Blu Ray. One common comment they make is the comparison to how early companies backed Divx the same way some companies Back BD exclusevily now. That is the only similarity. As a former HD owner (yes i already sold my Toshiba player and all my discs and now currently own 43 BD discs and counting) I dont see how they can make comparisons to Divx.

HD-DVD and Blu Ray Discs are the same thing. What? Yes they are the same thing. BD is not going to die because it is a stupid idea like Divx was. BD is the same concept as HD but with more support and better storage capacity. This isnt a one sided opinion by a blu ray supporter this is fact.

BD currently has the unanimous support of FOX (Both Star Wars Trilogies) Buena Vista (The soon to be Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy), SONY (The Spiderman Trilogy) and of course Disney and there vault.

RIGHT NOW BD IS FIGHTING THIS WAR WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS.

Those movies cannot be touched by the Universal only lineup. I will take those 12 movies I listed above over the top 40 Universal Movies they can release. and by the look of the domestic and World Wide Grosses of them many of you agree.

These are the facts. I dont have the time or knowledge of all of the HD sites or I'd post this statement over there. Any of you who agree with me are more then welcome to repost this there.

These are undisputed facts and not the rantings of a Blu Ray only Fan. I am a movie fan I will follow them wherever that takes me.

Force, very true and welcome back from the dark side! Glad you sold your HD-DVD.

Thumbs up

I just looked at the information objectively and It seemed like a no brainer to me. But again that's just my opinion.

They are hoping it is a repeat of Disney and Fox making an initial mistake supporting the rival format (DIVX) and then seeing the light and coming over to the clear consumers' preference (DVD).

But, there WAS clear preference. Nobody who called themselves an A/V enthusiast was in the DIVX camp. The players were from RCA and Zenith (ugh!), while the number one player sold was the $1000 Sony S7000, despite a (rather poor) Toshiba DVD deck at $699.

DVD fans ditzed DIVX, but never saw it as a threat.

Have to agree with Gary. The only problem with Divx is that it was a pay per play format. Otherwise, it was the same as DVD. Much like Blu-ray and HD-DVD being the same. One has more titles, storage, and player manufacturer support than the other. The choice should be simple. Very simple.

Divx died a horrible death because it was a dumb idea. The whole concept was flawed. Blue-Ray, on the other hand, is a major technological advancement that let's DVD fans take the next step up in quality and quantity and into the future. It's an idea whose time has come.

Any comparison with Divx is grasping at straws.

Yes, yes it is. That is without a doubt true.

BD: Always looking to the future, and enjoying the present.
HD DVD: Looking 8-25 years in the past

Wink

Thats all I was trying to say. I was just tired of reading their comparisons between blu ray and divx. Its just short sighted and dumb. They were trying to compare apples and oranges when in fact this is a battle between apples and solid gold apples. I think we know which one Blu Ray is.

Force,

I agree with you. I also appreciate the honesty and overall thorough look you gave both formats much like others here. Good to see Blu-ray moving forward.
