Default Pic of new ceiling mounted rear surrounds

Thought this might help someone. I have my home theatre setup in a finished basement. I really like it, but recently when I upgraded to 7.1 sound, I really had a tough time finding speakers that I could ceiling mount. The ceiling height is only about 7 1/2' high so I needed speakers that didn't hang down too far.

I finally found these Bose 161's. They were only 142 bucks(on sale) for the pair and that included mounting brackets. They work great for a ceiling mount application and sound good also.

I am not connected with Bose in any way and will not make a penny off of this. I just thought there are probably others might be in the same situation as me.

Looks cool, nice and clean. Glad you found something that fit for you and hope the Bose haters don't stomp your head in for using them.

Thanks. Yea, I know there are a lot of guys here that don't like Bose. I have no opinion one way or the other. I actually tried to find some Yamaha speakers to match the rest of my speakers, but I couldn't find anything.

I will compliment Bose on one thing though. The included speaker mounts are very well designed and allow a lot of flexibility in installation.

For someone looking for rears that need to be ceiling mounted and are on a budget(as I am), these are great. I read a lot of reviews on these speakers before I bought them and most reviewer's gave them high marks.

Looks good and I commend you on your installation job.

But one question. You couldnt find any speakers that you could mount? I have a set of Sony's (I have no idea what kind, as my speakers were free and I will be replacing them next...) and all I did was buy a mounting bracket from Target and they fit perfect.

I actually had an extra pair of Yamaha surround speakers that I was going to use. I thought about mounting them flat to the ceiling and fabricating a bracket, but the speakers just looked funny laying on their side. I ended up using the surrounds for "presence" speakers.

These Bose 161's were the only speakers I could find that looked decent while "hugging" the ceiling, cause head clearance was an issue. There may be other speakers out there that will work also, but I couldn't find them.
