Panasonic DMP-BD30 and HD audio

Hello,

I'm new here and am enjoying reading all the great info contained all over this site.
I have had the DMP-BD30 for about 4 months now and am blown away by
the PQ and sound! I have a decent Paradigm system and an Elite VSX-52 that
gives me fantastic audio but I am really interested in the lossless HD formats.
Does anyone know if the 30 is hardware capable, with future firmware upgrades
to decode the additional audio tracks? Or will I have to upgrade my
receiver or player?

If they provide a firmware for the BD30 to decode the HD audio formats internally, nobody will buy the new BD50 then.

Well, OK, maybe those who want the BD-Live really, really bad will still buy the BD50.

I don't think that the BD30 has the necessary chipsets in it, so it's probably not even a remote possibility that it will ever do the decoding. I think Panasonic probably always intended this player to be bought mainly by people that either had the necessary receiver or planned to purchase one. The BD50 will fill the gap for everybody else.

Personally, I would rather let my AVR handle all the decoding. I also don't really care about the BD-Live stuff, so I guess that makes me the "target audence" for the BD30

I bought my BD30 last week i was waiting for the BD50 to arriva but got sick of waiting and personally i like my AVR to handle all the decoding and i never went into extra feature in any BD disk so i never need the BD-Live feature i just want to watch the movie in finest presentation of video and sound.

Since you're already familiar with Elite AVRs, you won't be disappointed upgrading to the 92TXH.

I do not know if a firmware update will allow internal decoding but if a firmware upgrade can - I hope they release it for BD30. I understand the marketing issue of the upgrade to a BD50. But let's be honest BD30 is not a cheap machine used by entry level users. If the support is out there it should be in a future upgrade.

Again I say this with the thinking that this is more than likely a hardware issue than a software issue...Does anyone know for sure?

This make me wonder. Penton-Man confirmed that PS3 will get DTS-HD MA through firmware update. How is that possible without the chips?

Easy, the PS3 is a software bluray player.
It is really no different than if you had a PC with a bluray drive and player software.
Virtually everything on the PS3 is done via software.
