Default 10 minute high Def download from Comcast. For a 4 GB movie

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/product...-comcast_N.htm

Interesting article.

The service, informally called wideband, can transmit a high-definition movie in about 10 minutes. It would take about 40 minutes to do that on Comcast's most popular Internet service and more than an hour on most cable systems.

The speed comes with a steep price: nearly $150 a month for residential users and $200 for business customers, who get additional software and services

Comcast, which has 13.2 million Internet customers, plans to offer wideband to 20% of the 49 million homes in its service areas this year and 100% by the middle of 2010, Bowling says.

Don't think it's gonna sell at $150 a month...

I'll believe it when I see it.

Comcast can't even keep their On Demand service working much of the time.

Comcast, stop with the BS. Have you seen your Cable Quality? It almost as bad as SD! Now your claiming you can have an HD download movie within 10 minutes? HAHAHA NO!

Seriously, what a load of bs.

read that article...10 minutes for a 4 gig HD movie....not quite the 50 gigs that a blu-ray has.... this is why downloads won't work. terrible quality and $150 a month for internet service which with comcast will go up 300% in the next year.

Fifty bucks more for businesses is pretty good. At my business I'm stuck with AT&T DSL @ 6mbps down and like 528 up for thirty bucks a month more than my 20 down/5 up I get at home. And that was cheap compared to the cable internet I looked into which was pretty close to the prices they're talking about here.

Wow, HD quality in a file small enough to fit on a single-layer DVD? What do I need this silly Blu-ray for? Do the studios know about this?

I'm thinking of how many Blu-rays I could buy for $150.

Now, I'm thinking of how many movies I watch in a month.

Nope, not worth it even without taking into consideration the differences in quality between a 4GB movie and a 50GB movie.

My broadband is plenty fast ( & to F-ing expensive as it is ).....screw 150$ a month for INTERNET service. I'd rather have NO service...I'm not going to DL any movies anyway...

Ya. Wow. I never even thought of it that way. ANd just to get it straight, it's $150 for just the internet right? then like a few bucks more for each movie.

And I'm very scared of a 4GB HD movie. I'd rather buy an HD-DVD player.

That's really downloads biggest problem. By the time we'll be able to download 50GB in 10-30 minutes at a reasonable price range, we'll be watching (or at least be on the verge of watching) whatever comes after Blu and will be even bigger.

Customers will be able to download Internet data at a rate of up to 50 megabits per second
So I will be able to download Déjà Vu's 2hour+ 28 Mb/s BD at 50 Mb/s in 10 minutes.

Maybe Scotty applied for a job.

Justin from Bend, Oregon just sent us his ISP's new pricing plan, which makes Time Warner's look supremely generous: $55 a month buys you a measly 50GB running at a respectable 16Mbps downstream. If you run over, it's an extra $1.50 per GB. We hope Bend residents aren't huge fans of iTunes rentals—they'll chew through your allowance mighty quick. Welcome to what's shaping up to be the scary future of broadband in this country: It'll be faster, but it's either going to be filtered, slowed down or capped.

Since you can't watch a 90 minute movie in 10 minutes, not sure why that's a selling point. As long as the movie downloads in less time than its running length, you can start watching on a whim.

its first and foremost a reference point. "50 Mbps" means nothing to the average joe.

also, I would say the average time spent going to rent a movie is >10 minutes, so if you can download one in less time than going to buy/rent I would say it is a somewhat valid selling point. IMO
