Default theater in a box speakers question

question:

i have a home theatre in a box. i'm thinking of buying a receiver in the near future. would it be okay for me to use the speakers that come with the hometheater in a box temporarily until i am able to afford genuine HT speakers? or would it hurt the speakers since the ohm's would be so high?

as long as the receiver you buy can handle the impedance of your speakers you'll be fine. Always check first, but 6 ohms isn't out of the realm of possibility on some entry level receivers. What is the impedance rating of your speakers?

You'd end up frying the 605 with those impedence ratings... It can only handle down to 6 ohm loads. sorry.

dang, so there's really no point in buying the receiver unless i have some good speakers then.

so what you're saying is that if ohms are too low, then the power that the receiver is trying to send has no where to go an will harm the electronics inside the receiver due to over heating?

the higher the ohms then the better? is this is dependent of the gauge of the wire? or just what the speakers themselves will handle?
