Default Sharp - BD theater in a box.

http://www.hdbeat.com/2006/09/14/sha...-box-bd-mpc10/

Sharp is bring a Blu-ray to the home-theater in a box crowd in a big way - $3,000 big. The player comes with two speakers (bring your own sub) that create a virtual surround sound by employing top mounted drivers that are floating on gel to create "rip-in-the-water effect." Sounded good to us but the video is what we came for. The player outputs 1080p over HDMI which looked great on one of their newest 1080p LCD displays. They say that the unit is going hit production lines in March and should hit the high-end markets around late-April to early May.

Gotta post the hotness:

While Toshiba is already scrambling out with their gen 1/5 players, or whatever the hell they are, and there's nothing else, now you've got this puppy to add to an ever growing and diversified hardware lineup from virtually all the leading CE companies that everyone knows and trusts.

It's like Ice cream: Pick your flavor!

I would drop $3k on the Sharp before I would spend a $1,000 on the Toshiba.

Too rich for my blood, but I get the sentiment behind longshot's post and I agree with it.

Sharp is also one of the three (Sony, Panasonic, Sharp) that released BD recorders in Japan so they have some experience in the blue laser business.

nyg: A little surprised to see your comment about not buying Toshiba again - I thought you liked your HD DVD...

I like mine enough but perhaps my expectations are lower than most Plus my usage is not high yet...

My feelings about the A1 change with each firmware update. Just two days ago it was playing every movie with audio glitches. I reinstalled 1.4 and now it's working properly again... at least throughout the playback of one movie. Hope to have more success tonight. In the end though I don't like the idea of wondering how the player will perform from one day to the next. I like the old way of just popping in a disc and enjoying it as it is with CD and DVD players.

I could see that being annoying. Mine shipped with 1.4 and I have not changed it. I guess I will stick with that until I see any good reason to upgrade.

Yeah the sharp at 3k is a little hmm how do I say it over priced. Though it is an interesting solution they have its far far far too much to pay for a sharp blu-ray player when there are other better players out there. Plus sharp isn't exactly known for their speakers or recievers.
