Default Cloverfield

Is this any good? I quit watching after 15 minutes, of handheld shaky camera movement, and awful dialogue. Did it get better deeper in the movie?

My expectations weren't high and I ended up really liking it. The first 15 minutes were a bit 'meh,' but once the chaos starts, it's just really awesome.

I watched Cloverfield yesterday and it took about 15 minutes to get used to the camera style. Once I got used to the shaky camera I started enjoying the movie and the shaky camera seemed like another character in the movie. The movie also reminded me of first person shooter games such as Quake or Unreal. Very cool experience. Overall, I really enjoyed Cloverfield and the LFE was really awesome - shook my entire house.

I would love to see Cloverfield in high definition so I can get even more dizzy.

I think the attack starts at just under 20 minutes.

i cant believe a monster is destroying a city and killing everyone and this supid dude thinks its a good idea to video tape it.This was a poor excuse for a movie so leave common sense and logic at the door.

I agree.

I got exactly what I expected - a giant monster destroying a city.

here is a thread that suggests the movie is made for home viewing. I found the movie to exceed my expectations (and yes I hate shaky movies, I'm looking at you Bourne ultimatum and 28 weeks later)

Welcome to 2008.

You're not going to re-invent the wheel.

How many racing movies have you seen... total?

JJ Abrams brought up the idea, a monster movie, and threw an original take on it {that being the camcorder footage} and he probably made an assload of money doing it too.

And if you thought it would be anymore than that you're fooling yourself.

I feel the same way. Kept thinking to myself, "This has to get better. There is no way that J.J. Abrams would make a movie that is this bad for its entire duration."

But, you have to admit that it did eventually get better...

WHEN THE CREDITS FINALLY STARTED TO ROLL!!!

Have you done ANY type of research on this film? $100 honestly? The visual F/X were probably the best (and most realistic) I have seen in a recent movie to date. The fact that it was intended to be captured from a 1st person perspective is ingenius and works flawlessly for this film. I saw it 4 times in the theaters and loved it more each time. Judging it by the first 15 minutes is just asinine. That's like saying, "I saw the first fifteen minutes of There Will Be Blood and it sucked so badly." Maybe you should consider watching the rest of the film and then make a judgment call. And not you dlshelt. I am guessing you have seen the entire film from your postings. I guess it wasn't for everyone, but this has been my favorite film of '08 so far and I had been anticipating it from its first teaser trailer with Transformers and throughout all its internet buzz and viral marketing. Definitely did not disappoint on any level. And as for your comment about checking logic at the door. Well, I guess you must have a sad time at every movie you see (please, stay away from ALL this summer's films) because just about any and every film is irrational and radically dramatized. For example, I LOVED Live Free or Die Hard but it was so ridiculous and over the top that it was actually amazingly good. I guess I can differentiate between reality and entertainment.

Maybe you should read my ENTIRE post before responding. I clearly mentioned that I was not pointing you out. I knew you had seen the entire film. You just did not understand the movie and it awesomeness. Also, judging by the fact that you're putting your opinions/reviews on here now tells me you did not see it in the theater (where this type of film should be seen because the sound effects and sound quality were unbelievable), you saw it in your living room where justice cannot be given to the film. Oh, and I guess the fact that it was only, oh I don't know, 1 of 5 films released this year to get a certified fresh from Rottentomatoes.com has nothing to say about the quality of the film?

JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves deserve a high five for this one....great idea, great cast. Special effects are great, amazing to think how they intertwined it with Camcorder footage and made it so legible. Main girl was smoking hot who we have never seen before, props for that. I didn't go into expecting a blockbuster, and left pleasantly fulfilled.

If you consider yourself too good after watching a movie for 15 mins then you need to quit primping in front of the mirror. This movie had me from the very first Department of Defense title at the beginning....
