Default Lack of special features on BDs?

hi guys!

I'm new here and I just want to know if anyone can tell me why a lot of these blu-releases seem to be microwaving out onto the market w/o any special features. I could care less about commentatries, trivia tracks, or trailers.....I'd prefer a documentary on the subject matter or at least a 15 min "making of" introspective. I mean, give me a reason for ditching all of my DVD's for BLU already......

Could or couldn't care less? Trailers are something I love. But if you want to know what features are on what, DVDEmpire.com posts the back cover of movies. I think it'd be to hard to actually have a list of Blu-Rays and what features they have and list them by type of features.

And you want a reason to ditch DVD? I can give you 2, picture and sound. That's enough for me right there...

if the BD is not marketed as Special or Ultimate, don't expect the studios to give you more than great PQ and AQ.

Cool Yeah!

If these Blu-ray's have so much more space that a normal DVD then they should include all the special features featured on DVD's.

But they won't because you need a reason to buy it again whenever they reissue it

Default yeah! is right!

you said it x-man-all i hear is how Blu has 5 times the storage capacity of normal discs-and you mean to tell me that you can't fit a 5 or 10 min documentary or something on there for 30 bucks????? i don't buy it! the whole reason i ever switched from VHS to DVD was because you got extras-more bang for your buck, and now you want me to accept, that pic and sound alone should be sufficient and those of us who also enjoy the extras should just go **** ourselves?

stop crying! i was making a point and you need to consider the context of the sentence i was putting it in. And do YOU need to resort to name calling (Mr. Troll)????

if you can't offer any usable advice for my query, i suggest you jump on another forum and call someone else idiotic names...

Do you need your special features in HD? I do agree that Fox is insane in asking as much as they do for their catalog titles when they don't include the any of the features that the DVD had (or just any features in general). But look at DVD when it first came out. Remember when scene selection was listed as a special feature?

no, Clayton, i don't care if they're in HD, I just see no real reason to drop my DVD's for a stripped down release that is like Wicky said, is probably just another excuse for studios to double dip. I happen to be a very serious collector, and if i'm going to invest my money to switch formats on my entire collection, I want the best version for my money.

When I look back at some of my earlier releases, I chuckle over the special features listing which often was just a trailer lol. I agree that studios are just going bare bones with releases, or porting over SD supplements from the respective DVD release. Thus my policy is simple and economical; I simply await a more definitive quality release to avoid having to repeat the errors of my former DVD days.

Many people say that they don't care about the special features and want the entire disc to be given a superbit treatment. Unless it's a lengthy movie I totally disagree with this opinion. 90% of the FOX BD50 titles have at least 10-15 GB space left that could have been used for extras.

Special features are acceptable sometimes because I like to watch the outtakes, previews of movies I haven't seen yet, and cast interviews.

The disc size is larger but so is the resolution. As a result all of the file sizes are larger. So is there really that much extra space?

yes, i can make my point w/o the f-word-same as you can make yours w/o the soccer mom observations......

I have collected hundreds of DVDs and i simply want someone to give me some knowledge on why i should re-purchase every title i own. I think that the studios are taking advantage of collectors and fans who are impatient to see their favorite films in Hi-Def and are simply popping these bare bones releases out there to satisfy them until 6 mos later when they hit them with an SE version-

what is your opinion?

I agree.

If there are special features on the film's DVD, the absolute least they can do is include them on a BD. I don't see any reason why they can't put the special features in 1080p as well, apart from Blu-disc space. Not that I'm complaining.

exactly King! it matters not whether the extras are in 1080p or not. How many times have you seen a standard DVD with extras that were dated or not in the same quality as the DVD film itself???? no one cared then, so why should they now? include the extras-HD quality or not-give the public back what they paid for in the first place.

audio takes up a lot of space especially the excellent audio like Linear PCM uncompressed sound and DTS HD-Master Audio

i'm aware that audio and pic can be very sizeable. But the entire concept of Blu is to give the moviegoer the best experience possible for the money. So, that being the case, put what you can on a disc and stop releasing 25g discs when you could release 50g or 2 dsc releases such as many Disney releases.
