Default Are there any HDMI-1.3 Receivers yet?

Are you aware of any Pre-Amp's or Receivers that have multiple HDMI-1.3 Inputs and Outputs, that may have been shown at CES ?

I have the Sony 70" XBR2 1080p SXRD TV, a Sony BDP-S1 Blu-Ray player, the Sony Playstation 3, and just ordered the Toshiba HD-XA2, and in the spring when Sony introduces their second generation player (Sapphire) which includes HDMI-1.3 output, I'll change out the BDP-S1 for it. Now, I need a Pre-Amp or Receiver with HDMI switching (3-4 Inputs - 1 Output). Anyone know what's out there?

Jim

Actually I am wanting a new reciever with this too. I just need one with HDMI, but when I buy a reciever I expect it to last me a while so I'd like one with HDMI 1.3. Prefferably a Yamaha THX Certifed one (I have their 2500 model and it's the best thing I've heard). So if anyone hears or knows anything about any new models coming out, let us know!!! Thanx!

Default HDMI 1080P, but SACD is useless.

The only receiver that I know of that has a 1.3 HDMI input that can do 1080p is the yamaha 1700, or 2700, or something like that (I know it has a 7 in it). I saw it at Ultimate Electronics the other day. I think the 2700 has the multiple HDMI ports.

Does anyone else find it retarded that the PS3 technically can play SACD's, but cannot output that audio in the digital optical format, but only through stereo or through HDMI?

I don't have a receiver that has HDMI at the moment and was possibly looking to upgrade. Why would I want to wait for a receiver that has HDMI 1.3? What's the difference between 1.3 and 1.1?

Not true - the Yamaha RXV-2700 you're referring to has HDMI 1.2a ins/outs. The only receiver currently on sale that has HDMI 1.3 that I'm aware of is Sony's top-of-the-line receiver that does video upconversion to 1080p. Can't remember the model number but if you research it it is their model that retails for around $1500. Personally, IMO, you're best off just waiting until more receivers become available with decoding for the uncompressed audio formats and also have like 5 HDMI ins instead of the paltry 2 or 3 nearly all currently have.

I have that receiver, but I don't think it's HDMI 1.3 (STRDA5200ES).

Anyways, all you need is a HDMI 1.2 receiver and a PS3 or standalone with the decoders built in (unless you are getting the TVs coming out this year with HDMI 1.3). Sony is suppose to add a DTS-HD MA firmware upgrade to the PS3 by mid-year (I believe).

I'm good until I decide to get a TV with HDMI 1.3 for improved picture quality.

1.3 allows you to pass the new HD audio formats to your receiver and logically a 1.3 capable receiver can decode these formats as well. The HD audio formats include Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. I just bought a Pioneer VSX-82TXS but now I think I will upgrade when Pioneer releases a 1.3 capable Elite product.

So if I have a PS3 which I thought can decode those signals already would I still need a 1.3 capable reciever?

Yes, you would need a new reciever unless you're using the analog outputs (which I am not sure if the PS3 has...). Using the HDMI 1.3 outputs, you'd have a lossless format. Right now it's lossy meaning your 1's and 0's aren't all makin it over to the reciever. Not to mention a lot of people don't like it when a reciever decodes the signal instead of the player. I personally love the way my reciever sounds using the coax output on my Sony BDP-S1. But I do have a somewhat higher end reciever too (not THAT much higher end, but just a little).

My BDs sound good using the analog outs on my Sony to the receiver.

It'll tide me over until I come to upgrade the player someday.

Right now I have HDMI for video and Optical cable for sound. Since my reciever doesn't have HDMI but I was going to upgrade to the Onkyo-604 receiver http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Onkyo...oductDetail.do so I can use the PCM audio for BD's and 7.1 on PS3 games.

This isn't true...you do NOT need a receiver that has HDMI 1.3 with the PS3, but it will need HDMI. The PS3 decodes the new audio formats (Dolby Digital Plus, TrueHD, etc), and it can output them as PCM. As long as there is an HDMI connection you're fine.

You will need an HDMI 1.3 receiver to decode DTS-HD Master Audio.
There is still no date set to add DTS-MA decoding to the PS3.

An HDMI 1.1 receiver will allow you to receive PCM and TrueHD, when the TrueHD is decoded by the PS3. It will not let you send TrueHD to the receiver in its undecoded format.

If you don't have an HDMI 1.3 receiver you should have your HDMI output set to "PCM"

When you get an HDMI 1.3 receiver and you want the receiver to do the decoding, which you'll have to do to get DTS-MA, you'll want the HDMI output set to "bitstream"

The next batch of Denon amps will feature HDMI 1.3 and support for TrueHD and DTS-MA.

You many not really need to wait for 1.3 amps; the current HDMI 1.1 amps still do 1080p/7.1 PCM audio. So its up to whatever your player can decode. Keep in mind that any trick play or audio overlays (like button sounds, audio during fast forward etc) immedietly requires the player to decode the audio stream and output PCM only anyways, so any advantage of your amp doing the decoding is debatable.
