Exclamation Next - Reviews and Reactions Thread

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...94&show=review

PQ: 4/5
SQ: 4/5

I don't trust this review for time-being.

I had the U.K version of Next on Blu-ray which is VC-1 encoded and features DTS-HD HR @2 Mbps. The PQ was easily demo material besides few Jaggies ( ) in couple of scenes. The SQ was excellent with terrific deep bass.

I've only seen this movie in theaters, but it was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

Here is another review and hopefully you will trust this!!!

"For Blu-ray owners who missed out on Next when it came out exclusively in high definition on HD DVD last fall, it does offer a couple demo-worthy sequences and Jessica Biel in high definition. That winning combination is definitely worth a look."

An enjoyable enough popcorn flick, check your brain at the door and have fun (kinda like Deja Vu). I think I'll sell my DVD and make the BD upgrade.

Yeah I never understood why this movie got so much hate. I mean I am not claiming it is an amazing movie and I find it weird seeing Nic Cage playing the love interest to a girl half his age but it was an enjoyable watch even though confusing at points but I never got bored uninterested. I guess it is just popular bash on Nic Cage these days.

It's definitely not the greatest movie of all time and, honestly, it's a bit cheesy. That said, I can't help but like it. Like everyone else has said, it's the kind of movie that's best taken at face value and one where you don't put too much thought into it. I bought the UK version a few months ago (my dad told me he loved it) and it looks pretty good and sounds pretty good, as well. It's definitely not for everyone, so rent it first. The strange thing was that my wife actually liked it; I have no idea why.

Another review

http://www.dvdauthority.com/reviews.asp?reviewid=5596

"Next" is directed by a favorite director of mine, Lee Tamahori, who has directed a few of my recent favorite films: "The Edge" and "Mulholland Falls" and he's got a real sense as to how shots look and look good on screen. "Next" is presented in a 2.35:1 AVC HD transfer that, for the most part, looks positively amazing (the HD DVD had a VC-1 transfer). I noticed no edge enhancement, colors seemed vibrant and strong and the detail level is absolutely amazing (you can read the meters on slot machines a couple rows away). There were a few scenes that seemed to have a bit of roughness to them and some of the CGI scenes seemed a bit "jumpy" but that might have just been me. On the whole, "Next" delivers a fine-looking transfer and viewers won't be disappointed.

When I first watched this movie, I thought it be just an average action movie, it end up being better then I thought. I was pissed that this movie didn't make it on Blu-ray before but now that it did, I'm glad since I always liked PCM better then Dolby TrueHD... ya ya someone will tell me they're the same audio but honestly, I always thought Dolby TrueHD was the inferior audio codec when it comes to sound quality. I plan on picking up a Panasonic BD50 later that supports full lossless audio, maybe that will change my views on Dolby TrueHD.

Anyways, I liked this movie alot.

I believe this movie was encoded and done right around the time Paramount betrayed us. Note the PCM audio when all their newly encoded titles will be Dolby TrueHD. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the UK BD version which lgans316 has seen.

His seems in line with the Home Theater Forum review.

Quote:
Next is encoded in the MPEG-4 AVC codec at 1080p with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The video presentation is solid, but not spectacular.
