If I pick up this receiver, will I get full use out blu-ray/ps3/xbox 360 audio capabilities? I was thinking about getting this bad boy because... It's cheap.. It's got 7.1. It has 3 HDMI inputs,so I can hook up my PS3, Xbox360 and PC and put the video to my TV all through a single HDMI connection. - Right now I have to use an HDMI switch, and an optical switch for sound... and my xbox 360 can't get both surround sound and HDMI because the setup only allows the HDMI to be plugged in or the other cable that has an optical jack build into it. - Assuming this receiver will fix the problem and allow me to switch everything via the remote. So basically I have 2 questions, because I'm really an audio newby. Will I be missing out on any important audio codecs, or will I be fully capable with high def surround sound? Am I missing something? This seems like a killer deal for the price. Speakers... I've never bought a lone receiver before. My 5.1 setup, which I'll probably be giving to my friend, came with the speakers. How do I go about this? Thanks, any help appreciated. |

Here this bad boy is better quality... and same price, going to look into that. Only 2 HDMI inputs, so have to use a switch between PC and the game systems, but no big deal. |

![]() But to answer your question, yes the Sony STR-DG720 would provide all audio codecs from the PS3. It is 7.1 PCM. ...you would be getting better quality from the Onkyo or Yamaha. But they would all work and do what you need overall. |

as for speakers, you could build your system up over time...which is probably the best option as speakers play an important role in audio reproduction.
But if you need a good cheap fix check these out... Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System |

Good advice, getting the Yamaha. Question though, my PC is currently setup with a DVI>HDMI cord going to my TV, and an optical going into my optical switch - and eventually my current receiver.
I know that the Yamaha will physically have an HDMI input and optical input, but will I be able to mix them together? Meaning get it to send the TV the HDMI while playing the optical? |

Assuming you went with the Sony DG720 and if willing to spend $200-$300 more on speakers, what would you think of matching it with Sony speakers -- and going with their dual channel center SS-CN5000 and the SSF-5000 for fronts and the SS-B3000 for sides or rears?? Will this series of Sony speakers play nice with a 7.1 system?? Thanks crack ![]() ![]() Last edited by Collectors Set; 05-24-2008 at 05:20 PM. |

Well the audio from my PC doesn't pass through the HDMI, just the video.
And how are these for speakers? http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKS-HT54...&s=electronics |

![]() Granted I know there are better out there, so I don't expect miracles...but for the price, they kick ass and rock the house. ![]() |
