Default Receiver set up - Getting audio but no video!

Guys I'm lost. I'm trying to set up my home theater...my tv is does not have an hdmi port. This is what I have connected:

hdmi cable from DVR box to the receiver
Component cables from DVR box to the TV

I've tried hooking up the DVR to the receiver with a component cable on every component jack and it didn't work and I did the same with the tv to receiver. Help!

btw my receiver is a yamaha 6160

connect your dvr with component cables directly to the TV, and then connect an optical cable (or whatever cable you use) for audio to the receiver.

Don't I need to hook up the component cable to the receiver though? Keep in mind that I'm not using an hdmi cable for the tv as my tv doesn't have hdmi.

you don't have to go through the receiver to connect your video. In fact, using an analog cable, it might benefit you just to go directly to the TV.

connect the audio cable to the receiver though.

What benefit do I have with having the audio cable connected to the receiver though? I don't want to use the sound from the tv anymore. I've tried hooking up the only the compenent from tv to dvr and it isn't working

the benefit of connecting the audio cable to the receiver is to have audio play out of the speakers.

Isn't that what you want?

did you change the input on your tv to whatever component slot you hooked it up to?

I'm getting audio through my speakers from hdmi connected from my dvr to the receiver. I'm just not getting video. I've changed the source settings on my tv and still nothing. This is depressing

disconnect the HDMI cable from your dvr.

Forget about HDMI completely. It has no use for you yet.

Connect your component cables from the dvr to the TV. (set the dvr to output video over component.)

Connect an audio cable from the DVR to the receiver. Set the receiver input button for audio only.
