If you have a look at the Dell Notebooks that had the optional Blu-ray drive, they no longer have the option (no Blu-ray drive) but have Vista instead. I'm certain that this is a temporary situation as Microsoft have said that 64bit version of Vista will support both HD-DVD and Blu-ray, however HD-DVD will be fully integrated whereas Blu-ray will be via 3rd party applications.

I hope you're right, but at first passing and quick glance, my first instinct on that was: "Here we go again with more typical MS chicanery."

It would be interesting if Apple added Blu-ray drives in their notebooks before Dell, then it could be one more reason to give a Mac a try since Vista is only playing catch-up with the Mac OS anyway.
Also, since Apple is a BDA member, I would expect their support of Blu-ray to be better than a OS made by a company that would rather see Blu-ray die in favor of M$-DVD. |

![]() Anyone remember when free HD DVD playback support would be in Vista and that's partly why HP went neutral? What shell game!! Just like HD DVD players (rushed out laptops) And VC-1 encoding (hand tuned for every title) Yet, the fanbois scream how wonderful Toshiba and MS have been delivering this mess. ![]() Gary |

^^ Crap we still have to sift through to this day by MS and HD-DVD acolytyes and Sony haters? It's been amazing how quiet and how much grace has been extended MS's way in regards to Vista. Anyone want a good laugh? Look up some articles from 6-12 months ago about what Vista was originally supposed to be and do vs. what it actually is now? And also look up when it was supposed to originally be out on the streets and do all of those things. LOL, it's not even close! "Double standard" is too kind of a phrase to cover it. |

I try to promote BD, not tear down HD DVD. Even when I'm debating the Chinese players, it's out of an honest opinion that it is the wrong route to success. A Microsoft branded player would be FAR more effective and trusted. Yet, Amir is playing this CE numbers game. Stupid. Gary |
