You can import it if you can't wait until the US release date.

Xploited has it for $36

I'm still debating.

Studio: Warner Japan
Codec: VC-1
Disc type: BD-50
PQ: 4~5/5
SQ: 3.25/5
Average Video Bit Rate: 14~16 Mbps Compression artefacts noticeable on certain shots especially on the character's foreheads that are exposed under low lighting.

This BD like many other Warner BDs implement(s) multi-lingual menu interface and localized language/subtitles listing.

If my memory serves me right, I think the HD DVD looked a tad sharper and sounded better than this BD. Fortunately the picture quality doesn't suffer much despite the low bit rate encoding as the master format is Digital Intermediate and with the movie being filmed using Thomson Viper HD Camera.

The biggest disappointments of this release are

1) No lossless audio and weak DD track : I had to crank up the volume by 4~5 db.

2) 3 major special features that were presented in High Definition on the HD DVD are presented in Standard Definition here.
  • Zodiac Deciphered (54 min)
  • Prime Suspect (42 min) : His Name Was Arthur Leigh Allen presented in SD
  • Theatrical Trailer

I expect the Paramount version to outperform the Warner release on all aspects.

Zodiac had DNR scrubbing? News to me...I thought the majority of the film was filmed in HD with 1080p cameras?

So after reading the review from dvdbeaver they say that the extra features are mostly in hd on the japan version. Anyone have it and can confirm because the extras in hd is the main reason i am waiting on paramount for this one. Thanks

All extras intact but 3 major bonus features are presented in Standard Definition on the BD that was presented in High Definition on HD DVD.

I wouldn't call it the film of the year, but it certainly wasn't terrible. I had low expectations before renting it, thinking it'd be about as good as The Zodiac which came out a year or two earlier (which means not good at all). Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo were both quite good in this. This might be the first movie about a real life serial killer that I think was actually well done (Summer of Sam = garbage, The Zodiac = garbage, Ted Bundy = garbage, the upcoming Ted Bundy movie will likely be garbage as well. Side note: Does anyone know of any other good ones? From Hell is the only other that comes to mind, and that wasn't all that great, not to mention somewhat fictionalized).

I totally disagree on this one - Summer of Sam I thought was well done and was a unique twist on the story, involving a tale with the surroundings and the people living there during that time.

I definitely like Zodiac better, but Summer of Sam is right up there with great films - Spike Lee is an amazing director as well as Fincher.

I'm not sure what one has to do with the other...

The HD DVD of Zodiac that Paramount has already released received absolutely glowing reviews, plus Paramount's policy is one of BD-specific encodes and lossless audio, so I feel there's nothing to worry about from a PQ/AQ perspective.
