Default Can NOT get new Pioneer BDC-202 Bluray Player to work

Hi Guys I just got a Pioneer BDC-202 Player and I cannot get it to read Bluray DVD, it reads reg DVD's but not Bluray, I tried Win XP and Vista as I have a dual boot system, I tried different players (VCL, Power-DVD, Win Media) but I still cant get it to work.

When I try to play Bluray in Power DVD it crashes, I tried to install the software that came with the drive but it hung up while installing Win DVD which I did not think I needed.

Am I doing something wrong? do I need a driver?

Here is my setup:
Gigabyte: GA-K8N51PVM9-RH Motherboard here: http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Products...A-K8N51PVM9-RH
AMD X2 4400+
1GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800GTX
160GB IDE Hard Drive (Vista)
80GB SATA HD (Win XP)
300GB SATA (Storage)
430W Power Supply

You may have more luck posting this question here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35 in the blu-ray drives section. Sorry, I have no idea, but good luck.

From your post - you may have a few problems - First are you using 32 bit versions or 64 bit versions of your OS?

Second: Are you using PowerDVD Ultra? (the ultra makes a big difference - only the ultra addition will play BD). If you are using WinDVD BD (oem version) chunk it and get WinDVD 9 Plus BD make sure you do all of the updates for PDVD 8 ultra or WinDVD 9 Plus BD. You may want to try Total Media Theatre by Arcsoft also.

Third - there have been problems with the 8800 video cards and BD. The 9600,9800,8600,8500, and 8400's play BD without a glitch (you may also look at the new ATI 4850 cards).

I am using 32bit OS on both Vista and XP, should I be using 64bit?

for the Power DVD I am using version 7.3 which says it can play bluray.

Is there any freeware players out there?

Doesn't the monitor have to support HDCP as well? I'm not sure if they're checking that on PCs yet or not but I'd check into that as well.

BTW, do you pass the test (the PowerDVD utility that checks to make sure everything you have is okay for blu-ray)?

Not sure if my monitor has HDCP I have an Acer AL1914SMD VGA/DVI, Multimedia, Silver. However once I get this working my plan is to setup a clone view to my HDTV via a DVI to HDMI cable.

I did run the Power DVD checks, on the Basic Playback tab I am all green light, however on the Advanced Playback tab I am red light on everything.

Your monitor isn't HDCP compliant - you can't use the DVI connection - no fear, just use the VGA connection.

You're fine with the 32bit version. Is the powerdvd 7.3 the OEM or the full version? There are no freeware players for BD
What's your monitor model number?

Ok so here is the funny thing, once I launch Power DVD it displays that I have v7.3 however once I click on the about button it telling me I have 7.2 Ultra which should be the full version correct?

On the monitor I got an Acer AL1914SMD VGA/DVI, Multimedia, Silver.

I'm not entirely sure why you are PowerDVD Ultra is crashing. You should be getting an error message, though, if you are trying to use a DVI cable with that monitor.

Your monitor doesn't support HDCP so you MUST use a VGA connection to the monitor ... but I wouldn't attempt that until you at least get the system working otherwise). Try that and see if it keeps the program from crashing.

If not, I would uninstall PowerDVD Ultra and reinstall to see if that helps. Also, you MUST play BDs within either the PowerDVD Ultra or WinDVD BD Edition software itself. You cannot playback in other software (Media Player, etc) the way you can with DVDs.

That's could be because of the updates I would go with PowerDVD 8 or WinDVD 9 Plus BD myself. I haven't had a problem really with WinDVD 9 Plus BD since I've bought it (with the exception of it just playing back the Core on DTS-HD-Master). But the monitor is the source of the video issues. Plug your monitor via the VGA and run the advisor again. Also make sure you have the latest Nvidia Drivers on your system.
