Default Dish Network to offer 1080P movies

Of course the quality will not be as good as BLU-RAY but it appears that both Direct TV and Dish Network will soon offer true 1080P movies. Hopefully Dish Network will offer new receivers that output 1080P/24 instead of just 1080P/60.

Quote
"To make use of the capability, Dish said it will offer subscribers in August the recent Will Smith theatrical blockbuster “I Am Legend” in 1080p HD format through its video on demand service, Dish On Demand at a special $2.99 rate, reduced from the $6.99 video-on-demand HD rate. Subscribers may order the movie on Dish Network Channel 501.”

man i need to switch to satellite. right now i got digital cable but i only get like maybe 30 hd channels. the reason i got cable is cause i want faster internet than DSL and it's cheaper to bundle w/ digital cable. but man stuff like this is really making me think about switching!

I kept my basic cable and high speed internet with my local cable company and got Dish for all my HD content. I've also had DirectTv in the past. I prefer Dish network. They do have Sat internet service but it's way too expensive and not as fast right now.

Does Directv have a 1080P/24 receiver? I have the HR20 HD DVR 1080i/60.

you forgot to mention 150 hd channels by years end

http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/07/31...vod-in-august/

Take that DirecTV, you announce 1080p "this year" and 130 HD channels in August and DISH one ups you with an announcement that it'll start offering 1080p VOD in August -- but DirecTV fanboys will take some comfort in the fact that DirecTV's latest bird started broadcasting HD channels today, while Echostar XI won't start for a few more months. Either way, this is good for everyone, but based on both company's track record, we tend to take DISH's word over DirecTV's -- after the whole CES 07 lie. DISH subscribers with MPEG-4 HD DVRs should receive an update in the next two weeks that will allow them access the 1080p VOD movies, such as I Am Legend. The release also goes on about how the quality will be "same as Blu-ray Disc quality," but we'll believe that one when we see it for ourselves.

1080p doesn't mean anything if you don't have the bandwidth. The HD picture from satellite will always look worse than the HD picture from cable, 1080p or not.

really? then i must have a crappy connection. i get a lot of digital noise on my cable. like when watching satellite w/ lots of clouds or through a tree. no as much but i can see it sometimes.
