Son of Rambow

I've heard great things about this film and an online review shows the BD as Region A/B. Is this truly the case, since it's an Optimum release? Can anyone personally recommend the film?

Recently (October 2011) a german blu-ray release for this film came out.

Anyone who can confirm if this works with North American PS3's, please do. Hopefully there's no unavoidable PAL trailers this time

Yes, saw this in the theater and it's definitely worth seeing! In some small way, it's similar to Be Kind Rewind, but instead of remaking several movies, the kids are trying to make one original movie. And they are very clever and resourceful at it.

Whether or not it's worth buying however is going to be up to your movie preferences.

The reviews all sound good, the trailer is funny, the Blu-Ray's back cover seems to show a Region A and B and I really like Jessica Hynes (Stevenson) and the filmmaker's last film (Hitchhiker's Guide), so I'll give it a blind buy thru Amazon UK. Thanks!

i'd really like to get son of rambow on blu and it seems the only way is to get the uk release which is supposedly region a/b. now ive read about problems with the disc playing in region a players due to the pal trailers before the movie.

i know this blu wont work on regioin a ps3's, but i am wondering if it will work on sa players. im just hoping that some of you have imported the disc and could be helpful thanks.

i have a sony bdp350 and 550. so if you have the import and it works on either of those players please let me know.

I bought it and had to send it back because i couldn't get anything on my PS3. Not sure about standalone players though. But it definately WONT work on the PS3!

'Son of Rambow' is not region free, per Blu Ray Region Code website.

i know its not region free (even though its listed as a/b on the back) but supposedly there has been some success on sa players and thats what id like to try and verify.

The disc

Issued on a dual layer disc, Son of Rambow is a bumper package with a high bit-rate transfer. Announced as Region B, the check disc we received was actually coded for all regions but had limited compatibility on Region A machines. I tested the disc on my Region A player and found that the forced trailers at its start played jerkily but the menu would not show even though the main feature would play once you pressed enter at the presumed menu. Testing the disc on a Region A PS3 resulted in a black screen and nothing more. Optimum have since confirmed to us that while the check disc was coded for all regions - as they originally announced - the retail disc will be coded for Region B only. The only real disappointment with the transfer of this film is that it is a MPEG-2 encode, as the average bit rate is around 20 Mbits and the total file size is 25 GB. Detail is strong, the black levels are superb and the summer glow of the film is replicated well in the colour balance. The periphery is sometimes soft but this is how the film was shot, and not due to a lack of information in the transfer.

I can personally verify it DOES NOT work on a S350, will not play at all

Wonderful movie, loved the French foreign exchange student...will buy when it comes to BD.

My PS3 is a region B, same as SA and my copy of Son of Rambow is region B and does NOT work, dissapointed especially as all in front of TV ready to go .... so be careful

Sorry to hear that... But it means I was right about opting for a set-top BD player, instead of a PS... Have you tried updating the firmware?

It's one of my favourite movies of 2008, and it has maybe the best audio commentary I've ever heard, only comparable to some stuff Abrahams & Zucker & Zucker did on Airplane! DVD and audio-and-pop-up-video commentary on Goonies DVD and BD...

So has anyone tested this Blu-Ray up until this DATE on a North American Ps3? I read a comment from this post saying that this Blu-Ray still didn't work even after the 3.00 update on the PS3, which should've skipped the 50hz trailer. But that comment was posted in 2009. I'm hoping now it works by now.

I'm this close to buying it on DVD but I really don't want to double dip.
