Default Son of Rambow

I saw this movie is available on blu in the UK. Does anybody know if it is region free? I was thinking of ordering from amazon.uk? I really liked the movie and was suprised it didn't catch on in the US. It kind of lingered and lingered for a long time before getting a wide release, and even then it didn't get the marketing that it deserved. Not really sure why?

It is regions A and B - according to the marking on the box. My BD player plays the main movie, but not the additional materials - they are in 576i and not compatible with my region A player.

576i?? I have never heard of that? Well, I went ahead and ordered it from Amazon and will see what happens. By the way, I'm using 2 PS3's in my house- a 40 and an 80 gig. Hopefully all works out well.

I meant, they are PAL encoded, meaning I can only hear the audio, but it's black screen instead of video. Even the main menu background is PAL encoded. It's a shame, because the 'making-of' featurette is very entertaining. But, I guess, you can buy a DVD from bestbuy - it's in NTSC and contains almost all the additional features as the UK DVD.

I just tried to watch my copy for the first time on my BDP-S350 but all it does is go black. Is this movie not compatable with the player or something like that? I thought it was region free and so wouldn't be an issue.

I believe there are 1080i/50hz trailers before the movie, which can cause problems with Region A players.

So has anyone tested this Blu-Ray up until this DATE (May 15th 2011 and so on) on a North American Ps3? I read a comment from this post saying that this Blu-Ray still didn't work even after the 3.00 update on the PS3, which should've skipped the 50hz trailer. But that comment was posted in 2009. I'm hoping now it works by now.

I'm this close to buying it on DVD but I really don't want to double dip.

I can check it for you later tonight on my PS3. The disc is definitely region-free, but has PAL trailers before the main menu. I used my Region A LG player to play it before, which has no problem with PAL content. The actual movie is in normal 1080p/24.

Do get back to me on it - thanks a lot. Ya it's a real shame considering the 50hz trailers that plays before it is the only thing in the way from playing a movie that's 1080p/24. I'm not sure where I read it before but the main menu is also 50hz I really hope that's not true.

I just updated one of my PS3's to the latest firmware, 3.61. Son of Rambow still does not play at all on the PS3. The screen goes black and every command does nothing except the one to stop the disc.

On the black screen I tried using the Go To command, hoping it might completely skip the PAL material and jump into the movie. I tried a small handful of different chapters to input, but nothing worked. Someone with a computer BD drive might be able to tell you what direct chapter the movie plays. That is the only chance, slim it is, that this BD plays on the PS3.

Aw man what a bummer Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll just buy the DVD for now and watch it on my standard def TV lol ... shame the quality of photography I'd be missing out.

I guess I'll go around asking anyone with a copy to do what you suggested in bold.

You might want to look into a cheap Region A player that handles 1080i/50Hz content. Some manufacturers do enable their American players for it. Sony is the big one that does not.

I honestly would but at the current situation I'm in, I'm best left with the one player that does games and movies and more. I just wish the PS3 would allow PAL content already. Technically speaking, any PS3 can play PAL content right? Is it a matter of Sony lifting the restriction or is there more to that? I'm not asking for piracy tips or anything lol.

Don't mean to bump but any update on this? Ps3 got a new firmware and I hope miraculously they fixed this.

Or anyone with a PC/lapto blu-ray drive, do you know what the direct chapter digits are to bypass the trailers/menu?
