Nowadays many DVD sets are missing content that was aired on TV, specifically anytyhing involving famous music, whether it was in it's original form or spoofed for the show.
In Living Color for example, the DVD sets don't have the funny music videos that were aired (and are still aired) on cable. I'm especially irritated at how they show a picture of Jamie Fox as 'Trail Mix-a-Lot' on the cover art but there's no 'Baby's got Snacks' video on the set. As I see it, false advertising. Captain N and Super Mario have filler music in many places too. And I bet there's others like this. That being said, I'm well aware that legal contracting for a DVD is quite different from broadcasting, which is why this happens. So I ask theoretical ?s: First is whether these songs are attainable for home releases and it's just a matter of the publishers cutting corners, or if it simply can't be done. But if it were possible to get them, who thinks it would be worth a couple extra bucks to get the right music on your old shows? |

Heck, I'd even be happy for them to sub music in just to get the rest of the content. |

That's also another reason why The Wonder Years will never be released on home video. |

Virtually any song can be licensed if enough money is involved. The real problem is that many niche television dvds don't sell enough to support the companies paying for the original music. It's a shame that bootlegs often are closer to the original broadcast than the official dvd release.

Well, it sucks that they did that to Greatest American Hero and WKRP too. But here's a question----How did Miami Vice manage to get their seasons out without these issues? Wasn't that show an hour long video anyway?

I was highly upset when I tried to get WKRP on DVD a few years ago and found out they would probably never be released due to all of the song licensing involved. Fortunately, I found a site that sold bootleg copies that were actually decent quality. Sure, they weren't remastered, but they were no worse than standard Nick at Night quality. One of the funniest series of all time.
