Question Question

I'm looking to set up my home theater soon and I have a couple of questions which I hope all you knowledgeable people here will know the answers to.

What I want to do is use my playstation 3 as a source for video and audio coming from cd, dvd and blu-ray. What I would like it to do is just read the source discs and pass along the data to an AVR (Onkyo TX-SR806) via HDMI 1.3a without tampering with it. So no decoding or upscaling, I want it all done within the AVR.

So technically would this be possible? To let the AVR decode the sound, upscale and de-interlace the video (if coming from a dvd) and pass it on to the 5.1 speakers and television via HDMI.

If so what settings should i use on the playstation 3?

Thanks in advance for any help with this issue, I know I'm more then a little demanding ...

Greetz!

Yes, it's possible, but I don't recall the exact menu settings in the PS3..... but this will answer the question of how to send out the signal

if you send the audio via pcm that means the ps3 is decoding the audio. If you bitstream the audio then its your receiver that will be doing the decoding. Unfortunatly doing this will not alow you to enjoy the hd audio codecs as the ps3 cannot pass these through bitstream

Thanks for the replies!

So regarding the audio thanks to the link I get it now.
The Playstation 3 will do the decoding of the audio.
But can't any receiver decode PCM what's the point in having a receiver
that can decode these formats if the player does the decoding?

Still a little confused on the video side...
