Default Favorite Music/Artist Discussion

Just curious as to see what type of music everybody here listens to. Vote on the poll for your fav genre and a then you can list your favorite album or artist in thread. Also if you know of an upcoming album you can post the release date, because i often miss music releases.

Poll is also mutiple choice.

it really depends on the situation.

alternative: just casual listening
rap r&b: at a party
techno: doing something repetitive ie: jogging, mowing the grass, some things at work. techno is also not bad if its the right song at a party.

i voted for alternative

I just got the new Verve CD. Overall I'm happy with it. Been a big fan of theirs since their "Storm in Heaven" CD back in 91'. (One of the best Alternative albums ever made! )

I'm all over the place with music. Just on my PS3 hard-drive I have everything from Enya and Classical to Jane's Addiction to Sarah McLachlan to Jazz and Techno to 80's to Classic Rock.

I seem to have very little rap and/or Country. Just doesn't do it for me.

Some of my favorite bands are: Travis, The Verve, The Doves, The Beta Band, Cocteau Twins, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Tori Amos, Dave Matthews Band, Cold Play, The Sundays - the list could just continue. . .

That's pretty much me in a nutshell too.

I'm on a real '50s R'n'R kick right now (Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Bo Diddley, etc), but this morning I got the urge to dig out some of my Trojan Records stuff and enjoy a little dub . I work from home and have music on constantly so in any one day there's almost 100% chance that I'll have listened to something from everyone of the last seven decades.

If you had to pin me down on my favorites I'd probably choose OMD, The Beatles, The Smiths, Buddy Holly, The Cocteau Twins and The Stone Roses.

I only own two Frank Zappa CDs - Baby Snakes and Hot rats. (I also own the Baby Snakes DVD - what a tripped out video that is.)

Just saw the Allman Brothers at pine knob last night. Really phoning it in at work today . Huge Dead-Head crowd this year because of Ratdog. You can't beat ABB for a live show. Greg sounded GREAT!!!! This is the one concert I will not miss when it comes to town every year. The best thing about the concert was the shop they had selling recordings off the sound board from last nights show. Cost $25.00 but well worth it. Sounded great on the way home. I dont know why all bands dont do that. They would make a killing......

P.S.
I would love to see ABB Live at the Beacon Theater make its way to Blu-Ray.

A lot of bands let people tape from the soundboard for free! (gotta get a "taper ticket" but it's the same price)

i'm a bit all over the map musically. i like about everything aside from rap or hip-hop. there is little rap and/or hip-hop in my collection. and what little i have is old school artists usually, which i've got no problem with. old school rap/hip-hop is rather good for the most part. current stuff though just doesn't do it for me. most of it sucks and it plaguing the radio much worse than the black plague. as for the genre i tend to prefer, i do like alternative. but i would have to break it down, as alternative is too generic and most of it these days sucks. to be more specific i love alt. pop, but i really love college rock. it's though a dead medium. there are a few bands here and there that still play that type of music to a certain degree, but overall it's dead. as for my favorite artists here's my top ten:

1. edie brickell and new bohemians/edie brickell/the slip/heavy circles (although i think edie brickell and new bohemians do edge all the others out)
2. r.e.m.
3. 10,000 maniacs
4. the sundays
5. abra moore
6. suzanne vega
7. liz phair
8. radiohead
9. the b-52's
10. the sugarcubes

You ever listen to Captain Beefheart?

edit: I'm really curious as to what Polyethnic Slam-Grass is. Some weird genres these days.
For the most part i like classical, modern composers, avant-garde rock/noise/experimental weirdness, old country, old jazz, old blues, and scratch heavy rap, but i cannot stand tejano music. I think that's what it's called. My coworkers arrive at 5am blasting this horrible music at 100db.
Boom-chic-chic
Boom-chic-chic
then some horrible accordian followed by the same sounding old fart pining for his lost love. Nails on chalkboard for me, but i had to vent that.

Let’s do it this way…

Greatest guitar player – Jimi Hendrix

Greatest bass player – John Entwistle

Greatest drummer – Keith Moon

Greatest lead singer – Roger Daultry

Greatest band…The Beatles

Yes, they are called the “fab four” because when they would play together, they created magic

I agree with your band and bass picks. I give guitar to Page, drummer to John Bonham and singer to Lennon.

It was a toss up between Moon & Bonzo, but Keith was just crazy man. As for singers, John could kick it when he wanted to, but for flat out Rock & Roll, Roger gets my nod.
