Default Question on new Blu ray and audio codecs?

This is my first post here. I just recently built a HT. I have a
Pioneer VSX91TXH AVR with a Sony BDPS 300 Bluray. ( connected via HDMI).

I hope you can help me I can't seem to find out the answer to this question.

I am watching a lot of movies that are recorded in Dolby true HD or DTS-HD Master Audio.

My pioneer is able to decode both of these formats. When I watch a movie does the AVR automatically decode this or do I need to do something to allow this to happen?

If I connected them by HDMI does this mean the sony is sending the info to the AVR for decoding?

What do I need to do to make sure I am getting these 2 formats to the speakers?

I appreciate your help on this, I can't seem to find anyone who knows this.

There are a lot of posts about this very issue but to summarize. Forget about the DTS-HD, the BP-S300 does not have the proper chip to decode internally. For DD-True HD firmware update 4.20 confirmed that the player will decode this internally and send over to your AVR as PCM, it will not bitstream DD-True HD. You need to switch the audio setting on the BP-S300 from Auto to PCM. After that you will be alll set, btw, your AVR will not show this as DD-True HD it will most likely show as multichannel PCM. If you need more information just search the Forum.

If a movie is recorded in DTS-HD and my player will not bitsteam it, what audio format does it revert to?

It goes down to the regular DTS and will either(depending on your settings) will be bitstreamed to the receiver as regular DTS or decoded and then sent to your receiver as PCM.
