Default Sony BDP-S1 Firmware Update

Firmware update is Ver. 1.55. It makes compatibility with the newly released BD-R/RE format (BDMV). I had a BD-RE Hi-Def video ready for this, and it works very well.

I think the other improvement is help to get a disc to eject when one will not eject. It is done by turning power on, as soon you see the power on display immediately press the STOP button to open the disc tray. If it doesn't open try again. Don't use the STOP button on the remote control.

Default BDP-S1 and BDMV vs BDAV

I also loaded the ver 1.55 patch last night, but was unable to play a project that was entirely Sony: a BDAV project made with Cyberlink PowerProducer that came with the Sony BWU100a. As the documentation says, the player now supports BDMV...and no one at Sony tech suport could say when or if BDAV support would come.

What software did you use to make your successful Blu-Ray Disc?

Have you applied the latest patches to PP? Are you using 3.7?

Default Instructions for installing the update

Just as an FYI for anyone who has not yet installed the update. Step 6 of the instructions say"

A series of different messages will appear on the front panel display. After approximately two to three minutes the disc tray will open.
WARNING!! Do not remove the disc from the player and do not close the tray. The update is still in progress. The disc tray will close itself as the update process continues.

"

However, my experience is that it doesn't. Once the install starts, about 2 or 3 minutes into it, the display says Download - 1, and the tray opens. And then it just sits there for 5 - 7 minutes and then the Display will say Download - 2 for a few seconds and then show the DL - OK message and then the player powers down. The tray does not close, it just stays open once it opens the first time during the install process. I then removed the disk, powered the maching back on, and the DL - OK message showed again, and then it took about 90 seconds (as per the instructions) to power up and be ready to load a movie disk. I checked after and it is showing that the install worked OK, and now has version 1.55. And it plays Casino Royale beautifully so I'm pretty sure that the upgrade went as planned. It's just that the instructions about the tray opening and then automatically closing are a little off.

That has been my experiene on the last two firmware updates. Why Sony doesn't revise the instructions (so that they are correct) is beyond me.

Sadly, it doesn't appear that many do. There's a much longer thread of people complaining about the loading time of the S1 on new Fox titles, but I don't know if any of them are running this new firmware designed to fix this problem. I saw your post, but I don't have this player, so I didn't respond, as I have no idea if it really helps.

I read it!

I'm downloading the update as I type and will load it tonight.

Any indication of improvements over v2.5 (eg loading speeds)
