Default No HDMI on HDTV

Hi all, before I begin, I want to say that I have an older Pioneer Elite 1080i HDTV and it has no HDMI input. I recently bought a Samsung BD-P1500 from Amazon and it will be arriving shortly. Forgive me for not having a huge vocabulary or understanding for the this technology, I just wanted to know a couple things...

1. Since I do not have an HDMI input, will I still be able to connect the player through the red blue green inputs on the TV(sorry if my terminology is incorrect)?

2. If so, will the quality suffer at all?

Like I said, I have a 1080i television and the player is 1080p, as are all Blu-ray discs, but the TV is a very high end, expensive HDTV and the quality is fantastic on such things as HBO HD or Starz HD or any of the HD channels I get, so yes.

I'm sorry if this topic was misplaced, but it was basically concerning how the player will perform on my TV. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear your input.

You'll be fine with the component connection (Red, Green, Blue, cable) Also need audio cable (red and white)

Actually not all of them are. For instance Disney messed up with Pirates of the Carribean 3 and making it just 1080i

Anyways, yes you'll be perfectly fine using Component Cables since they will get you the full 1080i that your tv can handle.

The component inputs will work fine to transport the 1080i blu-ray material but regular DVD will only be at 480p due to copy protection that can only be sent out the HDMI port.

You sure? That is the only Pirates movie that I do not have, so I have yet to try it. Some equipment might upscale it to 1080P.....

Positive, the only movies, outside of concert or opera, that are in 1080i are Short Circuit and T2 with the video commentary(this may have been fixed).

Actually T3 is the BD that was encoded at 1080i. T2 has always been 1080p. However Warner re-released T3 and now the only edition available (at least in amazon) is the 1080p corrected version.
If for some strange reason you want to buy the 1080i BD, you can do it through a third party seller.

Another 1080i BD is Steven Seagal's "Ultimate Force".

I am sure there are more movies released in 1080i, but not many.

Without the HDMI cable it will be just normal HD...if you want master High Definition, then you need the HDMI cable.
