Default To Wifi or not to Wifi?

I just moved into my newly remodeled basement and I've got my PS3 setup again. I would need to run a really long CAT 5 cable through the ceiling and down to the PS3, or I could just use the Wifi.

My problem with Wifi is that it may be slow? I have used it before, but I always try to use wire-based instead.

Has anyone who has Wifi ever lost the signal? Or do you notice it acting much more slow than wired based? I would like to keep it this way but these are my only fears.

Please kill my fears .

edit-- as I type this I am noticing that my connection is MUCH faster on my PC, since my new setup brings me only 2ft from my router as opposed to having to send a wire through the entire room. therefore using wires would make my PS3 connection slower, as that used to be using the CAT 5 cable I am using for this PC now.

I use my PS3 on WIFI and have no issues regarding lag or etc... . I run 5mb cable and seems to be fine, only issue i seem to have is slow downloads from the PSN.

I have no problems with WiFi either. I understand why you are worried - I was, too. The PSN downloads are kind of slow, but the online gaming is flawless (even when playing Resistance).

Yeah. I don't care too much about the downloads. Especially after the new update. If you say the online is flawless, that is all that matters.

Well for me a gigabit connection works better as it makes moving video from my PC to the PS3 so much faster. I can rip a DVD and have it on my PS3 in less than 10 minutes as is.
