Here is the glitch courtesy of John Ross:
http://home.earthlink.net/~jmorg/matrix/Matrix.htm I just called Warner at 1-800-553-6937. The woman that answered was very nice. I told her about the Matrix Revolutions Blu-Ray glitch and the approximate time in the movie that it occurs. As far as she knew, I was the first to report this. I made sure to tell her that this is a widely reported problem, not just my copy. I also told her that the HD-DVD of Matrix Revolutions did not exhibit this problem. She then gave me another number to call, 1-818-954-6000. Called it and was directed to someone who was not in, but I did leave a voice mail. I'll let you know if I hear back from them. I did forget to mention that on some players (PS3) it skips these bad frames, resulting in a jump cut. So maybe anyone else that calls can mention this. She told me that this info would be forwarded along to the proper parties. If we expect to get this fixed and re-issued, I suggest that everyone who cares about this glitch give them a call. Based on Warner Bros history of correcting and replacing problem discs, I'm fairly optimistic that if enough people call they will replace this eventually. Thanks, DanFan |

I haven't bought or seen the trilogy on blu yet, but is this glitch serious enough that it actually interrupts the movie? Or is it only a slight glitch that's just a tad annoying?

Yeah, it's something that happens really quickly but it also depends on the player as well. It's more obvious on some than others. On the PS3, it just looks like it doesn't transition from slo-mo back to full speed as smoothly as normal (it appears to skip the bad part). On the Panasonics, I think it's the least noticeable from what I read in the thread here (can't remember how it shows up though). On some other players, the picture breaks up some (gets blocky) and is more obvious. The symptoms are mentioned in the master thread.

I'm the person who posted a thread about this the week the Matrix set came out but I guess my original post got lost which is too bad because this is a terrible problem. I've been doing QC in the DVD business for ten years now on both studio masters and compression and things like this are not supposed to get out at a retail level. It was extremely noticeable to me the very first time I saw it and I couldn't believe this got past Warner Bros. QC department at their very own facility that they own.
I know there are some who feel this isn't a big deal but it is especially to someone like me who does QC for a living. This issue is approx. 3 frames but it's 3 badly encoded frames that should not be there, plain and simple. The last time I saw an embarrassing compression problem like this was The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King extended cut issue. Anyone who wants to see what that looks like, I will be more than happy to show the link to what happened on that. I don't believe anyone that I know ever caught that and apparently neither did the compressionist who did the encode or anyone in QC. This is just as bad in my opinion. In the QC business among colleagues I talk to, we consider this a major failure. My friend is the one who originally created the Matrix link so he will be happy to see that it is getting around. Regardless of whether this bothers everyone, it's an error and the people who buy this and spent their hard earned money should not act like beta testers for mistakes that QC people can't find. I also encourage everyone who has this to call Warner and let them know. You can also report this issue to www.blufocus.com as they report to all the studios in their consumer link. Thanks to Danfan for bringing attention to this yet again. Somewhere my original post is smiling :-) Last edited by DVD FOREVER; 11-07-2008 at 05:19 AM. |
