thanks for the replies guys!
I really appreciate it.
It has been verified now that the "Ultimate X-mas Story" Blu-Ray release does not include any of the new extras included on the dvd "ultimate edition" and that it is indeed the exact same previous bd-25 disc.
The ONLY think you get "new" in the "new" ultimate Blu edition is a set of lights.
absolutely pathetic WARNER!
you should be ashamed.
btw: Warner has long been my FAVORITE studio, and so please don't start saying I am "anti-Warner"
I have defended and supported Warner continuously during the past 2 years, but THIS release really burns me up.

Default Blu-ray version of Poltergeist

Hi all,

Is anyone, following this thread, a major Poltergiest fan (the movie, not the enities)?

If you have seen it, I am wondering if the Blu disc contains the full theatrical version. To my knowledge, no home vid version has contained all scenes that were shown theatrically.

I have the laserdisc and last released DVD, of the film. Don't care necessarily, to invest again, unless it appears in its full version.

Thanks

It's the full version besides the excised "I hate Pizza Hut" line, which will most likely never be re-inserted.

It's the same as the cut to Revenge of the Nerds that contains a real phone number for the realtor.

Speaking of Revenge of the Nerds, this is one of my all-time favorite comedy catalog titles. Is this likely to be a 2009 title?

Nerds is an evergreen title that's surely orbiting the release hole like 50-60 other movies. Could be 4 months or 4 years

Jeff,

I know Universal still has a large amount of "catch-up" catalog titles to release on BD. But are we going to see a good amount of brand new catalog titles from them in 2009?

Most studios have an 18 month or so release schedule at any one time. Count on it.

Jeff or Bill,

Have either of you heard anything about Barry Lyndon or The Good, The Bad and The Ugly making it to Blu? Also, what's going on with the Hitchcock titles? 2009 will be the 50th anniversary of North by Northwest, and 2010 the same for Psycho. Are these in the pipeline?

Thanks,
Scott

What is or was the cause of the problem with the James Bond discs not loading or playing? I read that lots of the players were affected except the PS3. Is the problem due to what's on the discs (and if so do you know what?) or with the players?

Are the problems the same with the UK versions and has firmware been released for the Samsung 1400 UK players that would fix it? Are they replacing the stocks of the discs in the stores or will people who don't own a PS3 need to download firmware for their machine? Which players do the studios usually use for testing of their Blu-ray releases, and what do they do if their release works on 1 or 2 of their test machines but not on all of them? Do AACS keys/charges have any effect on how many test discs are made?

Jeff-

Get a chance to check on that Matrix Revolutions error yet? If so, thoughts? If not... why not?! (I'm kidding).

I know you have a lot on your plate but just thought I'd ping you for an update. Thanks!

Jeff & Bill -

Thanks for all your work at TDB, I just started reading this year ......linked from this site actually.

With Home Alone coming out 12/2/08, any word on the sequel?

Any word on the unrated Live Free or Die Hard coming to Blu?

No, my copy of Matrix is in a holding pattern while it's waiting to get shipped out with some other gohrram disc

I'll be sure to report back

In the meantime, I've reported the timecodes you gave me to WB

Home Alone 2- Nothing
Unrated Die Hard, next repromote for DH and/or some other applicable
tie-in

Well, since you threw in a Firefly quote, I'll forgive you. I'll be looking forward to seeing what comes of this once you hear back from Warner.

I like this part "And, WB, if you decide to fix this, how about upping the bitrate on the movie a little, eh?"

Amen to that for all Warner releases.

Upping the bitrate will not get past the DNR barrier

Jeff or Bill,

What's up with MGM? They just canceled This is Spinal Tap and they've canceled plenty of others before that (Dances with Wolves, Silence of the Lambs, To Live and Die in LA, etc.). They have such great catalog titles and I want to see them on Blu. Any idea on what's going on with them?

Thanks.
