Default DVD Will Fail Article From 1996

Get some coffee this article is a little long. Upon reading this you will see the parallels are startling.

Read most of that article. Safe to say that the dude writing it was wrong. DVD has been the mosty successful home video format of all time. Let's see what BD does for the industry.

On my trip to Futureshop today I really noticed now how Blu-ray is getting pushed hard, very hard I must say. At least from Futureshop's standpoint. Lots of shelf space for movies, several other BD movies displays around the store, BD players hooked up to many HDTVs. All in all I think BD is THE hot item for Xmas this year. I'd really be surprised if it wasn't.

It's always so interesting to me when people propose such reasonable-sounding, carefully thought-out and evidence-based analyses and predictions only to have them proved completely and utterly wrong by the passage of time. Happens in business and politics all the time, and of course brings to mind the HD-DVD proponents and all their arguments as to why Blu-ray was definitely going to fail.
