this is the great news that were talking about in AVS last week and were closed.Yes this is true just wait NEW LINE to announce it..This means a clear evidence that BD is superior to HD-DVD another great news in the face of HD-DVD fans, this their latest quotation i love it :

Hold the music folks. Regardless of whether the timing is true or not, let's look at some numbers shall we?

King Kong (HD DVD) which we know maxes out the capacity of 30GB DL HD DVD and had to drop the TrueHD track to do it, has a running time of 187 minutes.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Edition) has a running time of 208 minutes

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Extended Edition) has a running time of 208 minutes

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Extended Edition) has a running time of 250 minutes.

How, pray tell, does New Line Cinema fit any of these movies (particularly LotR: RotK) onto a 30GB HD DVD without seriously degrading PQ, hm?

I'm not saying whether Josh is right. I don't care, really - the titles will come when they come, and not a moment sooner. But the numbers indicate that what he says might be true.

WHEN IS THE LORD OF THE RINGS GOING TO BE RELEASED IN HIGH DEFINITION (EITHER HD-DVD OR BLU-RAY)?

The high definition formats that have recently launched offer exceptional picture and sound quality in addition to new interactive bonus feature capabilities. New Line Home Entertainment is committed to the high definition format and is very excited about the idea of releasing the Trilogy in the format. However, New Line is also committed to maximizing the capabilities of the technology to deliver a cutting edge high definition experience. This will take more time as well as the participation of the filmmakers to achieve. It is currently not scheduled for release until, at the earliest, 2008.

New Line had already admitted that they were working on a LOTR release. I think it is very possible that these will be released in November (the normal launch time for all LOTR DVDs). I can't wait!!!! I'm so glad they did them right with the EE and PCM!

You can't ignore that, since it's on the official website, but if the rumored release date is true, it's for the Christmas shopping season, and that's got to be a hard season to pass up, so there could be some truth to the rumor. It would be nice to know when the answer to that FAQ was put on that site.
