Default Help with restore

I had to replace my PS3 due to overheating. Prior to taking it back, I did a backup on a USB thumb drive. After setting up the new one and trying to do a restore from the thumb drive, it says there is no data, but I can see it using my computer. Is there a way to get it back?

Also, I tried to download the latest update to the thumb drive, but the PS3 doesn't find it either.

I did something like this when putting a save game file back on my PS3 from a thumb drive. It has to be in a folder marked "PS3," and then there may be other extensions. I would tell you to save the files you want to use on your computer, then create another backup on your thumb drive w/ the new PS3, then go to your computer and swap out the files.

Someone here probably knows a better way, but that worked for me, since you make sure to have the file in the proper extension.

Try another thumbdrive. Or burn the data on a CD.

I tried that too. Thanks, I guess I'll just be starting over on all of my games. I'm not sure what the restore contains (it's half a gig), but I think the better idea is to just copy the game saves directly to the stick.

Does the instruction manual say anything about it? I'd check but I'm at work.
