Default Casablanca...worth the blind buy?

I never saw it but I've heard about it for years. It's coming out on Blu this Tuesday and just thought I'd get some feedback. It looks like it's coming in a special packaging. I really don't need all of the goodies but I guess it's good for the fans. I'm guessing it's the only way to obtain a copy on blu-ray? They'll probably release the movie itself a little down the road.

I'm also wondering if it's a dvd-size case. It looks like it's the same "Dirty Harry Collection style" I'd rather it be blu-ray size but we can't always win I guess. Here's a few pics for your viewing pleasure. 1st pic is indeed the dvd edition but the same stuff comes with the BD edition as well.

I guess it depends on your movie tastes. Do you enjoy classic films?

Personally, I love Casablanca. I've been a fan since I first discovered it on VHS. It's got some of the greatest snappy dialogue of any movie ever. And it actually gets better on subsequent viewings.

Blind buy? You might want to rent it first and if it sticks with you buy it later. I'm hoping to get this for Christmas.

A true masterpiece. A love story for the ages. I was in a trance the first time I saw it.

I've actually never watched this either. I can't do a blind buy on this one. That sets looks real nice though.

Definitely one of the finest films ever made but I am not sure I would be buying this overpriced edition as a blind buy. Wait for it to drop in price a little or until Warner releases a standard edition.

I've never bought a movie "blindly". I always see the film first, either in a theater or with a video rental. I would recommend that you rent Casablanca on DVD first to see if you like it.

As for myself, I love the film and can't wait until I have the money to buy the Blu-Ray disc.

Quote:
Once again, I do not purchase any Blu that does not have a fantastic audio format. If not, I buy it in DVD
I prefer that the film comes with the original soundtrack, rather than a tampered, modern version. Casablanca was released in mono, and that's fine with me. I prefer to buy the format that has the best picture quality, so with classic movies I'll get the Blu-Ray, despite the lack of surround sound.

I feel this is the greatest love story ever told.... i said i wouldnt buy blus blind but this weekend bought windtalkers, sand pebbles, carrie, home of the brave, point break & longest day blind so you never can tell.

I had seen it for the first time when it came out on HD DVD and I loved it. It definitely holds up, that's for sure. Also, the PQ was mindblowing for a film so old.

The Cinema Laser has put up a review:

http://www.thecinemalaser.com/brd_20...ca-uce-brd.htm

Quote: "...The 1080p black and white presentation is positively luminescent. CASABLANCA truly looks exquisite in high definition and the picture quality here improves upon the 35mm prints of the film that I’ve seen screened theatrically. Image sharpness and fine detail are of the highest caliber for this kind of vintage film...."

This will be #1 on my list for tomorrow!

I got this through WB during one of their 30 percent off sales, came to a little over 30 dollars shipped. I cannot wait to get it, I love this movie!

However, at it's current price on Amazon (41.49), I can see how some people may not want to blind buy this one. Warner should really get a cheaper version out there for people who don't want all the extras.
