I picked this up 2 days ago.. through a total random act of weirdness.
I went to pick up GTAIII for my dad -again, I swear I need to buy that game in bulk. Anyway they had this game with a red sticker that said 40 bucks off.. making it 20.. So has anyone else picked this up? I haven't had a chance to try the online co op yet. Sounds promising though to bad the co-op is not for split screen. It supports importing data from schematics and emblems from AC4. NonMandatory Install: 3.5gb Mandatory Install: 600kb The NonMandatory Install can be installed later and is not directly forced on you, you can run the install later from the system menu. They have added a set of controls including one called simple which does not require any button pressed to move with general thrusters on anymore. It took me some time to understand how to use retaliation missiles you press r1 to open up the pods and then when ever you shoot missiles they fire alongside them causing a larger amount of salvos to launch. You can't manual fire the retaliation missiles but that is cool none the less.. Last edited by dk3dknight; 12-01-2008 at 02:40 PM. |

Equipment: GA starts you off with some good gear but terrible weapons. My suggestions is gattling gun and sniper rifle as soon as you can.
Weapons: The Gatling gun shots fast and while each bullet does little damage the volume of the attack allows it to really tear armor off. The sniper rifle is a long range rifle it can be fired at the same time as the gatling gun above to create a heavy hitting combo. I found missiles to less useful, if you toss in retaliation missiles this lets you put a heavy missile barrage but I always feel like its useless, its good for confusing a human player who might panic to see a almost robotech missile barrage coming at his general direction. Also you might consider picking up the sniper cannon later it offers good punch and should be placed on your back arm that carries the sniper rifle that way should it run out you have another. Other weapons based on style maybe energy weapons, bazookas, etc etc, a different arrange of weapons will be available based on who's bed you decide to sleep in. There is a melee weapons in this game they are usually connected with a a boost and smack traditional to every AC game that came before. In total there are 5 weapon slots, Left Arm, Right Arm, Back left, Back right, Shoulders. You can fire left and right at the same time and shoulders at the same time, commonly you can switch left front and left back or right front and right back with triangle or circle. Generators Generators provide power and energy to AC, if you use energy weapons you will be more interested otherwise if you don't you will just want to make sure you AC does not use more then the output of your generator. I have to GA's start generator will meet your needs for anyone not using energy weapons, as it produces more then enough energy and sits in the middle. Generators provide 2 things energy to the AC and output, the start GA generator sits in the middle, the shop ones go to the extreme left or right. Head The head provides a few thing, it can but does not have to have a radar, it also gives a boost to your maximum health of the AC. Core The core gives you your base health and all other parts are directly or indirectly attached to it. Legs These are the actually most important thing on your AC, it defines how much you can carry, your total weight can go a bit off the maximum load theres some jiggle room but if you not careful you will enter into the red and have a overweight AC. Also gives a boost to your maximum health. There are actually different kind of legs this is just a sample. 2-legs - Common Spider - Multi legged Tank - Slower then all but carry s heaviest equipment. Arms Arms come in two flavors arms and weapon arms... weapon arms are arms that have built in weapons into them. Weapon arms cannot hold additional weapons since they have no hands. Arms are going to be what is carrying your main weapons left and right hand. Like everything else gives a bonus to health. Boosters You have more then one booster the side boosters define left and right dashes while your main booster define vertical thrust, forward thrust.. Each of these is a separate purchase and different component. OverBooster The over booster defines the following variables... Thrust of the over booster, how much energy the over booster uses, Over booster recovery time, If and what the PA attack will be. The only PA attack ive seen drained the overbooster and then the camera zoomed out and a dome of energy that anniliated everything in the general area of my suit. Its very cool to see. Stabilizer I haven't read up on what these do exactly my initial impression is they make your AC look cool. They supposedly help with control personally it just makes me feel bad*ss. Paint and Decals Paint is a collection of a set of colors that defines the color pattern, you can make your own collection of colors. You can also choose a camo pattern that goes alongside what ever color set you choose. Decals use multiple layers and let you create your own from a collection of frames and colors. You can place 8 decals on each part of your AC which I think helps to personalize your AC. Okay I think we have equipment down now. Missions Your first missions is to remove what you could define as POS mechs from a bridge.. this is actually extremely easy, and if you fail this you should ashamed of yourself. One of the enemy pilots will mention that there weapons can't penetrate your armor. These mechs are extremely old school reversed legs models and will general die with 1-2 shots and there ordinance is way to slow to actually hit your fast moving AC, they cant fly either so there dead in the water. Destroying the bridge work they are on will kill them as well. Based on how well you did your reward will be in the 200k range. Before you jump onto the next mission observe your missions, the second one should be avoided until you have at least improved your gear with some new weapons its pushes you to take a Heavily armrored Attack Carrier out and if all you have is a rifle and a bazooka this will take a long time, and you might get a negative amount of money from this mission. Instead you should aim for that first one that says commision it has you blow up boats in a naval dock which will help bolster your income. Destroy the big boat for extra bucks. I recommended to get a Gatling gun as soon as possible. Ill leave the rest of the game into the air for now, but don't try any mission involving attacking a assault carrier without some decent ordinance... |

im deciding on whether or not to pick this game up today. $20 is a sweet deal for just about any game, and i played the AC games on the Playstation. i picked up lair at this price several months ago, and although i did not play that much of the game and did not beat it, i still felt very satisfied with the purchase.
if i end up buying it ill pm you and we can play some co-op (once i get the hang of the game that is.) |
