Rome & Deadwood are two of my favorite all-time TV shows (although on a pay channel) - I'd be interested in more, a movie, huh? Cool...

It's going to be rather hard to do after the set burnt down after they were finished filming.

Plus
[Show spoiler] the main character is dead, so what's the point in seeing more?

It could be set and shot in different locals. And the end, when the kid and Titus Pullo walk off, that would be a great place to pick up again....to see where life takes them together. I always fet like Titus was sort of a co-lead.

Bring it

EDIT: Oh my....I didnt see this quote until after I posted...

"One seeming drawback to revisiting the show after its wrap was the demise of a key lead character, Lucius (Kevin McKidd). Yet Heller reveals that the character's off-camera fate was far from fatal.

"It was very deliberate that we saw him drifting away but didn't see him atop a funeral pyre," Heller said. "

The show cost as much as a movie to make. (100 mil)

Wonder how much this will cost... and if BBC will partner with HBO again. If it even happens.

Still the most brutal fight scene on any TV show I've seen.

I really hope this happens. I love Rome and that story could definitely go more places. And to the OP the Deadwood movies will likely never happen. Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant are so very busy these days along with many other cast members, who are busy getting them all together is highly unlikely. I wish it were not the case.

How does that work? Titus just took the kid? *LOL*

Default A Rome Movie in the works?

Did anyone else see this? Kevin McKidd says that there is a script for a Rome movie being shopped around. I'd go see it!

http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/popwra...kJLTHaO3FiNIcL

Quote:
Kevin McKidd may be giving countryman Gerard Butler some serious box office competition in the near future! In a new interview Kevin told PopWrap that two of his most beloved projects have big screen versions in the works. First up, the oft-rumored about feature film based on HBO's gone-too-soon "Rome!"

"There is a script that is being shopped and it's supposedly very good, I haven't seen it, but I am definitely going to be a part of the movie," Kevin told PopWrap. He then went on to say that his character, soldier/politician Lucius Vorenus, is not dead despite what happened in the show. "He very much alive, so that should be a fun story to tell."

On a more animated note, Kevin -- who voices Captain "Soap" MacTavish in "Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2" -- says that the hugely successful video game franchise is also eyeing a big screen incarnation.

"They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," he revealed to PopWrap. Then came the kicker, when asked if he would be bringing Soap to life in the movie, he said, "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely."

Um, you're freakin' adorable Kevin, just FYI. As for scoop on his "Grey's Anatomy" love triangle and what the arrival of Kim Raver's character means for Dr. Hunt, check back for that lump o' news on Thursday!

I'm watching Rome right now. He is a very good actor. I didn't know he was in the COD franchise. A Rome movie would be great. A COD movie would be fantastic! Bring it on.

They're going to have to pad the budget for a Rome movie, seeing as how the set burned down after filming and all.

Rome Movie Is Very Close To Happening

Quote:
Pretty much every series coming out of HBO is/was gold, and "Rome" is one of their best. But do we really need a big screen movie? More on that after this:

Multiple sources have confirmed to EW that a big-screen sequel to the sword-and-sandals series is well underway. Rome creator/executive Bruno Heller has finished a script for Morning Light Productions, which financed the development and will produce the film. Series stars Kevin McKidd (Lucius Vorenus) and Ray Stevenson (Titus Pullo) will likely sign onto the movie, which picks up in Germany four years after the series ended.

Rome the series aired from 2005-07 and took place during Ancient Rome, beginning with Caesar’s invasion of Gaul and continuing with the rise of the first Emperor Augustus. The series centered on soldiers Pullo and Vorenus, who appeared to die at the end of the series.
Like I said, this series was awesome. Great writing, great acting, great production design - it had the perfect mix of action, human drama, and court intrigue. But again, will that translate over to the big screen, or will it just seem like yet another "Gladiator" rip off? Moreover, since the stories of the main characters all ended in the final episode (with one of them in fact DYING, yet it seems they're gonna pull a "Princess Bride" and say "he was just MOSTLY dead"), what else can a sequel add to this story?

To me, it's the same dilemma I'm facing with the "Arrested Development" movie. That series is one of my favorite comedy shows of all time. People say it was canceled before its time, but it got in three awesome seasons, never lost its creative juice, and wrapped everything up perfectly before it had a chance to get stale. Don't you think that a big screen version would kinda spoil that conclusion, and drag it out beyond its time? Besides, what works on a weekly series may not work distilled into two hours on a movie screen. I dunno. Much like remakes, I guess some things will just never be left alone.

I heard the creators of Rome were planning to take the story to Jerusalem and explore Herod's rule and the Roman conquest of Judea. You could see the beginnings of this arc in season 2 of the show, when two Jews in Rome were plotting to assassinate Herod when he visited, but it never went anywhere. It would have to take a seriously epic movie to even begin to tackle this story.

Awesome! I bought this during those crazy sales last year and am almost finished with the first season. So far the show is great, but I'm disappointed it was cancelled too early. I'd love to see a movie!

Saw this in Entertainment Weekly:

Quote:
HBO's hit series Rome may conquer the movie screen

Hail, yes! An insider confirmed that a big-screen sequel to HBO's Rome is under way. Creator Bruno Heller has finished a script for Morning Light Productions, and Rome stars Kevin McKidd and Ray Stevenson will likely sign on the movie, which picks up in Germany several years later. The next step: finding a director and studio, since HBO Filims won't be involved.
