Default 6 Channel LPCM possible over HDMI?

Is it possible to do 6.1 LPCM over HDMI? I've noticed all the titles seem to be 5.1 and didn't know if this was a limitation of just if they didn't bother to encode a 6th rear channel.

The Descent, for example, is 6.1PCM. Its possible.

I have 7.1 set-up but I have not seen any 7.1 movies yet; 6.1 sounds great though!

Resistance is 7.1 LPCM on Playstation 3 and works great for people using a 7.1 HDMI capable receiver. Also, Ghost In The Shell 2 from japan is 7.1 PCM and works as well, discreet channels too. So yes, 7.1 is of course possible.

Thanks for the info. I was beginning to think that was some kind of max since just about all the titles I remember seeing with LPCM were 5 channel mixes.

I'm looking for an HDMI receiver and didn't want to pay a premium for 1.3 if 1.2 could do 6 channel lossless.

It REALLY would not make sense to buy an HDMI 1.2 receiver right now. It'd be, well, like buying HD-DVD

1.2 (and 1.1 for that matter) can handle 8 channels of PCM. As long as your player can decode TrueHD and DTS-MA, there is no reason to wait for a 1.3 receiver.

Unless of course you just have to have the receiver doing the decoding.
