Question DVI television, HDMI receiver, LPCM possible?

I have PS3 connected to my 3 year old 50 in. sony wega LCD with DVI input with a HDMI to DVI monster cable. I'm using an optical cable from my PS3 to a receiver for 5.1 sound. I'm wondering if I purchased a HDMI receiver can I get LPCM and better sounding HD audio codecs, if I routed an HDMI cable from the PS3 to the new receiver? What would I have to do to still be able to use the HDMI/DVI cable for the video?
If any of this is possible, any recommondations on a mid priced HDMI receiver.

Thanks
