Band of Brothers - Episode 9 - Why We Fight - Blu-ray Forum

I am watching this episode on Blu Ray which i might say is amazing. The question i have is while i have never read the book, how true to the book and real life is this show? Did Easy Company actually stumble across one of the Nazi concentration camps or was this something that was done for the show? It seems very possible that they would have, i just wasnt sure.

I read the book awhile back, but I believe that E company did. I don't think the producers/writer would have just slipped that in.

Yes, they did, and I believe Winters himself in one of the books about him is quoted as saying that discovery made him realize exactly why everything that had gone through was necessary.

I read Ambose's book after viewing the series in 2001/02, and it's amazing how true to the story the series is. In many instances as I was reading the book I remembered that exact dialog even being used in the given episode within which the scene appeared.

I cannot comment directly about Easy Company, but can write about what my father discovered when he was in WWII. He said that scene where the Unit could smell something long before they discovered what they were smelling was exactly how he remembered it. "It was so bad you could almost taste it." His unit, the "71st Infantry" (one of Patton's), discovered "Gunskirchen Lager" (in Austria) and a few others. It is still so upsetting to him that he rarely speaks of it. BTW - - He is a big fan of BoB; says it is the most realistic of all WWII films.

BTW - - If any of you are ever in Cincinnati look for his WWII uniform in the Holocaust Museum. "Trout" will be the name on the jacket.
