Default Audio display question

Hello. I have the Sony bdp-S350 player and I am wondering why is never displays the 5.1 audio signal? Press >display on the remote and it usually shows dolby digital 3/2.1 48hrtz. What is the 2.1?

I am using PCM. I have an older JVC DTS /dolbly receiver (optical cable). I am getting fine digital 5.1 / and DTS, but just wondered why the blu-ray player doesn't say 5.1 rather than 2.1.

The 3/2.1 means 3 (front) /2 (surround) .1 (subwoofer).

BTW 7.1 shows up as 5/2.1, you would think it would be 3/4.1...

But I am getting 5.1. My receiver tells me so. I have had 5.1 surround for 8 years now. Why is the player showing only the front 2?

I don't know what you mean by the front 2? You said it was displaying 3/2.1, this is Sony's terminology for 5.1.

3+2 = 5 + .1 = 5.1
