Man I payed a fortune to get the DVD, a few years back when it was first released as a Japanese import.

I don't quite understand your question, but I think I get what you're getting at. Yes, I would like anything Hayoa Miyazaki did. I'd go for Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaa, My Neighbor Totoro. Anything.

Definitely.
This is one of my favourite films from the collection and if it'd be released on BD (Blu-ray) it'd be awesome. |

Disney will doubtlessly release this (and any other major Studio Ghibli they own the rights to) once Japan has a release. Because of the Japanese pricing structure for anime, they're pretty worried about reverse importing because American-releases are so much cheaper. So once the Japanese blu-ray has been out for a while, we'll be able to get OUR blu-ray release.

When will it be available? I'd really like to own it! I've seen something on Amazon, but it's unavailable and it doesn't look official.
This film would be fantastic on BR! |

The Japanese blu-ray of Spirited Away arrived today from Amazon. It looks fantastic. Not sure how long it will be til a US release, but personally, this is one of my favorite films, and I've waited long enough. Those of you willing to import can take it off your wish list.

Disney's probably saving it for last to keep people interested. They release their Ghibli films three-at-a-time, which means it will be paired with The Cat Returns and My Neighbors the Yamadas, the only other two left. They're probably counting on fans/collectors picking those two up with Spirited Away. If they released those two films with, say, Tales From Earthsea (which is in next month's batch), less people will be interested, and it might affect Cat and Yamadas' sales (neither probably did too well the first time around). They also release their classic animated films in similar fashion.
There's also foreign releases to import that are English friendly, such as the Japanese release, which has the English dub and subtitles. It's a little pricy, but if you're really impatient, that's the way to go. :P |

Any chance we can campaign to Disney to not give this one a dubtitles-only treatment like we got with Mononoke?
