Our survey finds PS3 to be the king of the Blu-ray players, but there are plenty of other great options.

They sure as hell forgot about the Onkyo DV-BD 606. Since Onkyo makes the best receivers I was really happy when we finally got the BD Player. Today I made a direct comparison between the Sony PS3 and the Onkyo. With really High-End Speakers and a good Receiver (We used the Onkyo TX-SR876) you really hear a difference between the bitstreamed audio of the onkyo and the PCM Multichannel output of the Sony. If you don't factor in the cost the PS3 is by far not the best choice.
If you are looking for a regular cheap BD Player I would go with the Samsung BD-P 1500 or the Panasonic DMP-BD 35.

If you have a little more to spare then you should go with the Onkyo or one of the better Denon Players.

Like i posted in the LG 300 thread, overall nothing comes close to the PS3 in terms of how many features it has but just focusing on it's Blu-Ray capability

It's the best in it's price bracket for disk load times, BD-J load times & PQ as well as support for all HD audio formats now

It won't match really high end Blu-Ray standalones in the PQ & SQ department in the coming months & years but a soon, price cut, slimmer re-design & features will still keep it #1 in my eyes considering the competition within similar price bracket

The S350 stands on it's own coming in fourth place and that's not bad for an entry level player. I got mine for only $177.98 on BF. At that price it's a better deal than the PS3 at $399 unless you also like to play games. I like bitstreaming the lossless audio formats to the A/V receiver because I think seeing DTS-HD MA or DD TrueHD displayed on my AVR is so cool. It also has its practical uses: like TDK from Warner Bros. Those idiots made the BD to automatically start off with lossy DD 5.1 instead of DD TrueHD. My AVR was displaying Dolby Digital 5.1 when I first started watching TDK. Crap on WB! Warner is still pushing lossy DD as it's premier format taking precedence over DD TrueHD! After pressing the Audio button on my S350 remote, my AVR was displaying DD TrueHD. I just enjoy seeing which lossless format is AVR is receiving. That's just my preference.
