Default Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD Owners Thread

Hey guys, I have considered upgrading from my Sony 46z4100 lcd to a Pioneer plasma
a few times now, its been back and forth.....from ,ok im gonna do it .
..then to ,no I am just gonna wait a few years to, nope, I better do it because who knows , I may not be here
in a few.

Anyhow I have a few seemingly good deal offers on a Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD.

First off, the screen reflectivity, here is my room .... no you cannot see how
bright it is but this picture can kinda give you an idea.

One reason I chose my current Sony 46Z4100 was the very anti-reflective screen.

I am worried about this.

#2 break-in , how important is this and where can I get a quick education on being a new owner,
I dont have time to read threads.
If one of you would make a quick 151fd new owner's post that would be terrific.

Oh and is $5400 delivered from an authorized dealer decent? Id be pissed if
I bought it and a month from now I hear guys getting them for $3500 .

hmm, seems I had a few other questions but I cannot think of what they were now.

thanks alot!!!!!

I have a Pio Elite (1150HD) from last year's generation and love it. I have never had an LCD, but I can't even explain how much better the Pio is compared to my 2 previous HDTV's (DLP & LED DLP).

#1 glare is not an issue, at least imo it's not. My room has 3 windows directly opposite my Pio and a sliding glass door.

#2 do not worry about break-in. These sets are top of the line and built to deal with any normal viewing conditions you can throw at it. All you have to do is make sure you don't leave black bars on the screen for days at a time.

I agree with what Schultz said. I just got a Pioneer 111FD (the 50" model) and I love it. It is in my loft and during the day that room can get pretty bright. While the screen is more reflective than an LCD screen, it is not a real problem. Pioneer did a good job with the anti-reflective shield.

As far as a break-in period, I don't buy that philosophy. Now I am not saying you don't have to be careful, but these plasmas are not super sensitive to image retention. Here is what I did, choose the protection setting that makes all non-HD images into zoom mode. In other words, try to limit the black bars in the beginning. The manual decribes the mode to protect the screen and prolong the life of the plasma. I know it is in there, but I am at work and don't have it at my disposal.

Last but not least, I have selected the optimum picture mode. This is the mode that automatically monitors the amount of light in the room and adjusts the picture accordingly.

I have had my Pioneer for 10 days now and I could not be happier. Just as an FYI, I got my 50" for $3799 plus tax. You should be able to find a better price on the 60" than $5400 delivered.

Good luck

Check out my HT Gallery and you will see all the windows in my room. Glare has not been an issue for me. You will love the Pioneer Elite. Break-in was not an issue for me. I used mine for TV, Blu-Ray, and Video Games. I've never had a problem and the picture is always simply amazing.

Check out Monoprice for wall mounts. I bought this one:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

I bought this about 2 weeks ago to mount my Sharp 46" LCD. Besides the price, I liked the fact that this mount can handle up to 175 lbs. I am not sure of the weight of the Pro 151FD, but I can guarantee it is less than 175 lbs.

By the way, I checked out Sanus wall mounts. They were roughly 2X the cost of the Monoprice mounts.

I have a 8-9 years old pro 101fd kuro. Few weeks ago it started giving me the 8 blue light blinks everytime i switch inputs. Everytime it does it, i have to turn my kuro of for at least minimum of 5 minutes before it can receive video signal again.

Is my kuro dying? If so, Is there a components in it that i can replace to extend it's life?

Please let me know, im not ready get off the plasma bandwagon just yet.

VeryNew,
I had the same exact problem. I contacted Pioneer support & they referred me to a local Authorized Pioneer Repair Shop to fix. Please see my Post regarding my comments & recommendation to repair. See below. Good Luck!

Today's TV's a mostly big and super bright. Other than OLED, they're still lacking deep blacks.

I think my dad's 6010 died last night. His receiver uses S-Video for the OSD which wasn't working. We plugged it into an old monitor and it worked. We tried rebooting the TV to see if it fixed the input issue. Now when the TV powers up we get "preparing to start" then that goes away and 12 blinks from the blue light. Sounds like a power supply/main board issue.
