Default Buying a Kuro Elite PRO-151FD, advice needed please.

Is this truly the best tv on the market? The wife and i have decided to spend the money, but she wants me to do a little more research. i currently own a sony kdl 52 w3000 and love the picture, but would love a bigger set and it seems the 8 inches would make a big difference. i was surprised to see the kuro elite still only has 60hz refresh rate. i just want to hear everyone's thoughts regarding this tv and is it really going to make my current tv's PQ look like a joke? cause if so, this thing must look remarkable. ok guys let me hear what you got before i shell out a lot of cash!!!!

i also just wanted to add that i touched on the 60hz thing and noticed all the new tvs are 240hz. is this making the kuro elite suffer and feel outdated? or does the picture still blow away all new sets coming out, example the xbr9 and samsung led regardless of the refresh rate??

The Kuro also has a 72Hz refresh rate for BD playback, so you get perfect 1080p 24Hz from your BD's. The PQ is so good you will wonder why you did not get one MUCH sooner. LCD's do not compare.

Buy an elite if you can afford one comfortably. They are pricey but have the best picture available.

Panasonic's are a good choice if money is tighter. The picture quality difference between Pioneer and Panasonic is not worth the price difference for laymen (we're talking $2K-$3K here).

If you are an afficianado, then you should consider a Pioneer KRP series Kuro monitor. The quality of the Elite TV but missing a TV tuner and a few other things that most people don't need anyway (they use their cable/dish boxes to change channels).

I've got to agree with this too. Very nice at 72hz. My last plasma did not support 24p and I gotta say the Kuro's are simply amazing.

i purchased a pro-151fd about 2 months ago. both my wife and i have have been enamoured by its unparalleled picture since we first fired it up.

to say that i have zero buyers remorse would be an understatement! in fact my only remorse is that we don't have another sitting in the basement.

well worth every penny.

fwiw i paid $4,200.

cheers!

LCD screens need 120HZ and 240HZ to reduce motion blur issues. A Pioneer Plasma at 72HZ has a better picture quality when compared to current generations of LCD with LED backlight screens that refresh at 120HZ and 240HZ. LCD screens keep improving but so far they do not match or beat the 9th generation Pioneers in terms of picture quality.

I'll give you some ammunition for that tomorrow. My wife was apprehensive at first about this entire home theatre project. Planning on finishing up the documentation/pictures of my HT.

Now that it's done and she's actually experienced Band of Brothers on BD with a 7.1 system, she was utterly blown away.

The crowning moment was when she was leaning back on the couch yelling (I have the sub cranked) "omg I can hear the bullets whizzing by my head and feel the explosions all around me".

If I could I would. [Although in my case I'd be a bit concerned regarding possible plasma hum/buzz issues at higher altitudes.]

You only come this way once. You will have no buyers remorse when you get home and watch your television. You friends will be talking about your set while the watch their television... This is something the wife will back you on 100%

i have decided after reading your replies and a little more research that we are definitely buying it. i have just a few questions regarding the set . . .

1. this tv will require a different wall mount then my current sony kdl 52 w3000 wont it?
2. also i will be ordering it online. where is the best place to order from as far as a deal, dependability, warranty, and delivery speed or options? i really dont want to get a broken set and have to wait forever for the returns etc.
3. should i get this professionally calibrated or just kinda steal someone elses posted settings?
4. has anyone posted the art of breaking this tv in?

thanks so much for all your help, i have said it before but id be lost without this board.

3. Someone else's settings will get you in the ballpark, but every set is not exactly the same. You can use the settings over at AVS Forums and then use a calibration disc (DVE) to dial it in yourself, or hire a professional.
4. Take a look at the Plasma Break-in thread at AVS.

You can follow that if you want but you dont have to. especially if your not using his settings.

If you dont want to go trough all that just watch full screen material for the first 150 to 200 hours.

i went back and forth as to whether or not to use this break-in process and in the end did not. i have no regrets. though i cannot compare the unit side-by-side to a unit which was broken in with this method.
