Default Multiple Viewings: Better or Worse??

Are there any movies you watched once and loved, then watched again and hated? What about the other way around? Or are there any that get better each time you watch them?

The first time I watched Blade Runner, I hated it. Then I watched it again and my opinion completely changed, as I thought it was an incredible movie. The first time I watched Gone Baby Gone I really enjoyed it, but after a second viewing within a few months thought it was only subpar. Really weird how that can happen.

Firefy and Supernatural are both two of my favorite shows. The first time I watched them I barely even liked them.

I am probably going to be Banned from Blu-ray for this but don't ask me why i'm writing this i guess it just fits in the thread some how.. I hated the Spice Girls moive Spiceworld when it came out i was forced to see it on a first date in High School. But i recently saw it on HBO and i got very nostalgic and i love the movie now... I don't own it but i am affraid that if it comes out on Blu-ray i might buy it and be made fun of or shot at the store

I have flip-flopping love/hate feelings about you, Spartan54. We should hang out in real life. I like gummi bears. So, we've got that in common.

The first Austin Powers. I didn't really care for it very much upon first view. I think it took a couple viewings and I became really hooked and couldn't wait for the next one.

Buy from Amazon. This is the safe way to NOT get shot at when making those sentimental blu disk selections.

I agree on Firefly, the first time it was aired I missed it. Then they ran it on Sci-Fi, watched an episode and a half and went, "This is just plain stupid." Finally saw Serenity, loved it, went back and watched the original series and wondered how I could ever have missed it in the first place.

That's not as bad as me. I watched the whole season waiting for it to hit me like Buffy and Angel.

Then I decided to try it again, with the perspective that it was not meant to be like BTVS or Angel, and loved it.

it makes sense for Gone Baby Gone. Not because it's a bad movie, it's well made and all, more because given the plot and the big question any viewer is left with at the end, no repeat viewing will live up to the emotional punch of the first.

granted, that's almost always true, unless you just happen to watch a given movie in the right state of mind on a repeat viewing. For me though the repeats are for enjoying the finer points of a particular film. I don't think I've ever watched something too much or found that my initial feeling was far off.

wait, Super Troopers I hated but now feel I need to see again. I can't think of anything else though.

I remember the first time I watched "Insomnia", and not liking it too much...the nest couple of times I saw it, I really liked it. Recently, I saw Prince Caspian in the theater and liked it, but after watching it in Blu I really love the movie.

I like Insomnia. Another good film by Chris Nolan.

Napolean Dynamite. Watched it and hated it.

Friends told me it's a film that you have to see at least twice, so I ended up seeing it again...and I couldn't stop laughing, and now I think it's a great movie.

Lots, lets see ones that I hated now like not necessarily love:
Underworld series
National Treasure series
Casino Royale

There's a lot more though I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

If a film does not hold up to repeat viewings than it wasn't a good movie to begin with in my opinion.

Without really thinking this too carefully, there are certainly films that I enjoyed more and others that I enjoyed less after a second or third viewing. One thing that certainly is relevant is that when watching films more than once is that you pick up on things that you may have missed a first time through. This is especially true if you were not paying close enough attention or that interested originally.

Default Grindhouse.

Grindhouse (2007). I didn't know what to think at first. I was impressed but confused.

Everytime since, the film's grown dramatically.

Especially as individual flicks: Death Proof benefited from the extra time.

I find Tarantino, Scorsese, and Mann benefit from multiple viewings.
