Default Yamaha HTR-6160

I am new to the audio side of things. I have a new 40 inch Samsung bought 3months ago and I am now starting to look at some receivers and need an opinion. Does anybody have any pros/cons on the Yamaha HTR-6160? I am not looking for top of the line, but on the same token I have never bought the low end of any piece of electronics. Will this be an adaquate purchase or can anybody recommend anything else in the same general price range? Thank you and Merry Christmas to all who reads this.

~~Chris~~

sounds like my RX-V663 just the canadian version. I love my 663 so yes the 6160 sounds like a great receiver. plus it's YAMAHA. go YAMAHA

Millwork

I just got the HTR6160 for christmas. I can't give you a hands on review, as the Fiance tells me I have to wait until christmas to open up my present... but from what I've read/heard it IS a very good receiver.

Futureshop.ca even has it for $499.99 right now.

The only true 'con' I feel might reer it's ugly head after awhile, is that it only has 2 HDMI inputs. Is this a dealbreaker? not for me (PS3/HDPVR via HDMI + Xbox360via component).

It's high current - which you typically only find in much higher priced receivers - 7.2 channels so if you want to upgrade to a 7.1/2 speaker system you have that option. and I'm also very interested in the 4 "scene" buttons which to my understanding, can store all of your preset settings for blu ray watching, concert blus, gaming, etc....

Can't wait till christmas!!!

From the specs this reciever supports everything I would want in a reciever and it's just waiting for a Blu-ray player.

If you like Yamaha i would suggest you look at Denon as well.I love both companies and i find them pretty close for features and sound

I have two questions for you,What's your budget and what type of speakers are you useing(Make and Model please)

No speakers as of yet and a budget of around $500-600.

That's pretty tight,

But not that tight if your only looking at a reciever
May I suggest, after getting a reciever of your choosing Just hit a pawn shop afterwards and get a pair of cheap speakers then,Down the road when you come into some more money you can do some serious hunting for speakers.

But i have to tell you you can do very well at Pawnshops,I know that first hand

I suggest get the reciever you want, thats a pretty big thing in any one's system.

There's very few of us that got everything we wanted in one day.
Patients will get you everything you want in a system instead of some half fast sh*t that you might not be happy with down the road

Remember Brother this is just my own opinion
