Default PS3 DTS-HDMA Sound Problem

Hello,

I have been watching Band of Brothers and have noticed that there is a substantial amount of distortion in the audio. Music, Planes flying by, bombs, etc. Thinking that it was my speakers, I stuck my John Mayer Blu-ray in, cranked the volume past where I was watching Band of Brothers and no distortion or crackling at all. That Blu-ray is DolbyTrue HD. Then this morning, I was listening to the Rush: Snakes and Arrows Blu-ray and noticed that same distortion. I have my internal volume level set at 0. Has anyone else experienced this?

When the movie is playing back, press the triangle button on the PS3 controller and check your "volume" setting on that PS3 onscreen menu. I know that I have had major distortion problems like this with the TrueHD track on '300' when I had that volume setting at it's highest. Since I've turned it down to +2 it seems to be much better.

Yeah, but the problem is I have my Volume is set at 0. Maybe I'll set it down to the minuses and see if that has any effect.

Really, it should be set at 0. That is the original volume that the movie was mixed at. I find that when you lower it or raise it you change more than just the volume.

Has this just started happening w/ DTS-MA titles, or are these the first ones you've used?

Also, have you recently upgraded any of your equipment?

I have my volume set at 0, and it is fine on mine. If I have it at anything - I have to crank my receiver, anything + and there is major distortion in my speakers, 0 is the best place to have the internal volume of the PS3.

For those that have the "crackling sound" what PS3 version you have? 20g, 40g, 60g, 80g? I have the 80g and played ALL my DTS-MA title with NO problem. Just wondering is different version of Ps3 could be a factor.

YouR most certainly are not losing your mind as regards the Sin City whine - paid 25 Euro for the mother****er and am well pleased with the vid quality on my 55" rear projection, but the sound is atrocious with mic hiss as well on dialogue along with that high pitched whine!!!

I have a Pioneer VSX-LX50 receiver and am also playing on a PS3. Couple of my friends simply couldn't hear the high frequency whine. It must be just in the genes, an Irish Army reserve Audio & Ocular tester told me I achieved the highest score he'd ever seen on the "frequency" hearing test (plays a series of tones gradually decreasing in volume to practically inaudible and you press a little button every time you hear something)!

It's as irritating as hell though, what a stunning picture but god...the sound...so irritating.
