No it does exist yet. Only solution is a HTPC or a OPPO Dvd player for you're DVD Need.

BD Player are more complicated. The only one in existance right now that is region free on Blu-ray is the BH200 from LG with a Remote Code.

Or Samsung BDP1000 and 1200 with a Euro Firmware Flash

Either way you need a dedicated DVD player to play Pal on NTSC (or a HTPC)

Yeah it doesn't make sense for me to buy a non-bd player especially since I have only a handful of pal/region-encoded dvds. Do you think OPPO will make a bd one soon?

Thanks. It doesn't help with the pal DVD thing though. I already have a region free DVD player but it won't play pal titles on my TV. I used to have one that did play pal titles for multi-scan TVs (TVs that are compatible with both PAL and NTSC) ... but my current TV is just American hdtv and NTSC.

I've also been told that for some foreign BD titles, while the main feature will play if region isn't an issue, that some of the special features may not due to a PAL issue. At least that's what a website selling them said.

Please guys, use the 'search' button before you open the same topic for the 6th time the past few months.

Anyway, start with www.BluRayMods.com, their distributors and a few other companies that are using their Mod-kits (like the one mentioned here above), compare their prices and shipping costs, and decide if you want to spend the additional $'s to make it region-free for all 6 DVD-regions and 3 BD-regions. Finally, consider a PC/laptop with AnyDVD-HD to make region-free back-ups (of the discs you own, off course ).

Good luck!

This isn't just about region-free. It's also about PAL DVDs playing on NTSC TV.

Yes, that works with these kind of players. I think it is rather silly if somebody modified your (NTSC-)player so it can play PAL-discs as well, but you would not be able to watch them. So, yes, they can either output in PAL (for multiscan displays), or output at NTSC-50Hz (if your display would not accept a PAL-signal). This kind of 50Hz-signal is sort of a NTSC-version of the PAL-50Hz signal, and co-exists with the regular NTSC-60Hz signal. If still in doubt, look in the manual of your display and look either for PAL, or for NTSC-50Hz.

By the way, what you have been told about BD-titles in relation to a 'PAL issue' would only relate to some special features that are not recorded in HD, but in SD (in PAL-format in this case), because there is no NTSC/PAL in HD. Again, if you would buy one of the modified BD-players (ie. the all-region dvd/BD-players from Panasonic), you would not have this problem anymore. Just make sure you order the right player or Mod-kit(US-kit).

Neither PAL nor 50hz is mentioned in the manual for my tv. Westingh. TX-42F430S

Does that mean I'm just all out of luck? There's no adapter cables or anything that can be used?

Just found this earlier discussion searching for PAL/NTSC info. after discovering The Boys From Brazil BD is currently only available in the PAL format. I would need a multi-region player like Panasonic DMP-BD30K ($399) but also the International HDMI HD-X5 High Definition Pal/NTSC/Secam Video converter ($599) to play on my NTSC TV (Panasonic 50-inch plasma TV). No cheap solutions here. Looks like I'm stuck with the 1988 LD issued by 20th C. Fox/CBS Video.
