I just got finished playing Resistance 1 and Resistance 2 back-to-back. With a few exceptions:
* This was my second time playing through Resistance 1 (first time was coop with my brother). * I haven't yet beat Resistance 2, but I am pretty close (past Chicago). I have also dumped a lot of hours into the multiplayer. I know this might seem kinda late in the game, but I don't know about you guys, but Resistance 2 is an all-around improvement over the first one, especially given Trophy support. I always considered the first title a "must own", but it wasn't "ground-breaking" in anyway IMO. It's just a very good game. However, the second just blew me away on all levels. The graphics are one of the best I have seen on the Playstation 3, and the coop online multiplayer is really fun (though I'm not sure if I'm going to really blow the hours required to reach a high level). I was having a debate with one of my friends about which version is "harder". He still seems to think that Resistance 1 is harder. The truth is, you are going to DIE just as much in both versions. Resistance titles are known to not be Serious Sam titles, where you just run and gun without any tactics. However, what makes Resistance 2 much less frustrating, is the VERY frequent checkpoints. So with your constant deaths, it is not a big deal at all. My largest gripe with Resistance 1 (I don't know if you guys remember), was that the checkpoints were very infrequent, sometimes lasting through 3-4 encounters. Resistance 2 seems to have a checkpoint after every encounter. Good job Sony! Resistance 2 is a fine example of keeping a game "hard", while also taking the frustration out. There was nothing as frustrating as part one, where you would die on the 4th encounter right before a checkpoint, and lose 10 minutes of time. Good Job with Resistance 2 Sony. This is the winner on all levels. However, I do sometimes feel the need to pop in Resistance 1, and do the On-hit-kill Busyard shotgun mode. This is just mindless fun! |

As much as I agree with you on most, if not all points, I was rather disappointed that there was no co-op mode for the solo campaign.
R1 campaign was fun for me because I could play through it (countless times I might add) with my girlfriend or buddy. The split screen was okay and took up the entire tv. R2 co-op is okay, but it has to be played online with others (too many baddies), I can't hear a damn thing, so the story was lost one me and the spit-screen was, in my opinion, pure shit. Halo 3 anybody? Maybe this can be changed in the options section, but I didn't find it? I really like the game and can't wait to finish it up, but I'm not having as much fun this time 'round. Wonder if that has anything to do with not playing for over two months now? |

The graphics and game play are better in R2, but I found R1 much harder. I'm also playing them back to back. Could be because I learned to sensitivities playing the first one, but who knows. I'm enjoying it either way you look at it.

Its kind of like they added all this really great stuff to R2... but left out some key really great stuff from R1... like four player split screen, vehicles, a split screen that fills the entire screen, and brightness adjustment!!! R2 is really great, they just need to make like R2.5 with all the stuff they left out from R1 and then we would have the Ultimate FPS... if Killzone wasn't coming out next month

Never played offline co-op in any game so doesn't bother me that R2 hasn't got it. Haven't played the online co-op either and don't know if I ever will.
Things I don't like about R2: You can only carry 2 weapons (although this causes you to think tactically about the weapons you choose, so it's not a really bad thing) I can't drive around in a tank and blow sh!t up like I could in R1 ![]() The fact that if I so much as put one toe in the wrong bit of water I get munched by some indestructible fish thing. I can kill the Leviathan which is the size of a skyscraper with a few well placed rockets, but I can't kill a fish no bigger than our Hero? Rubbish. Other than that I've really enjoyed R2 so far (I'm very near the end of the last chapter) and once I've finished I'll be restarting to get the remainder of the single player trophies ![]() |

Am I missing something, R2 left out Offline Multiplayer so you cant have 4 people death match on one screen offline. I was very disappointed, the best you can do is an online play with one other person and create a game yourself but then you have a huge board with one two people. Anyone else find this annoying, I'm glad I still have R1 so I can still have a death match golden eye style.

The water effects in Resistance 2 are photo-realistic, though at times it can act like you're floating an a giant sea of Jell-O
