Default Resistance 1

Now that Resistance is in the greatest hits category, I'm thinking about picking it up. Before I was a platform gamer, I was a PC gamer (I could play high def games YEARS before the 360 or PS3 could). I enjoyed first person shooters such as Half Life 2 and the episodes that followed. I liked HL because of the story mode and how innovative it was (awesome textures, weapons, character animation, physics-based environment puzzles, etc.)

When I briefly picked up Resistance on a buddies PS3, I noticed all kinds of texture pixelation (in the shrubs at the beginning of the game) and pretty much put it down. I didn't really like trying to use the controller to play a FPS.

However, with all the buzz about this game, at a price point of $29.99, I might be interested. Will the storyline pull me into the game if I play further into it? Or is it just a bunch of running around shooting monster aliens (like Doom III)? I think I could live without that.

Definitely worth it for $30. Even though it's not for everyone, it features good graphics and fairly good multiplayer.

Co-op Story mode is VERY fun. I loved online back when I used to play it (Warhawk stole the show from it though).
Definitely worth $30.

I wouldn't waste your money. I was an avid PC gamer myself until the 360/PS3 came out. I picked up Resistance recently and was extremely disappointed with it. Maybe all of the hype boosted my expectations a little too much. Or maybe it's the fact that I have played far better games for the PC/360.

I haven't played a First Person Shooter that was this much fun since Goldeneye for Nintendo 64.

Which reminnds me...we need some proximity mines in the next one.

Not those gooey bubble gun things I mean some totally proper rage- vinaigrette-shit-that-blows-BIG proximty mines!!!

I'm a huge fan of the Half Life series and have HL2 on both PC and now PS3 in Orange Box. Resistance has a good story, similar in regard to HL. However, where HL leaves you in first person mode entirely as the story unfolds, there are pieces of Resistance told in the third-person narrative. It's still great though, and actually draws you into the story more.

As for graphic comparisons, I'm not sure what your friend was working with, or what your PC rig is running HL2 at, but graphically Resistance is on par with HL2. In several instances, Resistance is better graphically than HL2, especially when you consider battling hi-res rendered creatures that are two to three stories tall. I'm not sure what about the pixelation you were seeing, but overall Resistance is great graphically, and it has a rock solid frame rate.

Resistance is definitely worth picking up. It has an epic storyline that is very compelling like Half Life.

Resistance is a bargain at $29.99. Don't listen to any nay sayers. It's a great game, and now available at a great price.

OP, I know EXACTLY how you feel.

I had Resistance, and hated it the 1st time, I was like 'what is this crap?!' and sold it off.

I got it back because of the $29.99, and I love it now, when you get used to the controls, it can be really fun, especially the online play.

Get it, and play like 1 or 2 through it and you'll like it

As for graphics, well, it was a PS3 launch title, what can you expect? lol

Story is revealed in cutscenes, has little to do with game play.

BUT, this game is the first to make me jump when playing in the dark since the original Doom.

Get it.

Now.

I didnt like the animation in the game. The way the enemies moved was very, i dunno how to explain it, not fluid. It looked like something from ps2 really. Im hoping they fix this for R2.

I am an avid PC FPS player and thought I would hate Resistance... and it did take me a little bit to get used too the controller instead of a mouse and keyboard, but after the story sucked me in, I forgot all about the controller and was hooked. I too waited til the price dropped but I couldn't recommend a better game. Sure it has some "first game for the system" graphical oddities here and there, but for the most part the graphics are awesome and the story is one of the best, IMO, since Half-Life. Highly recommend it

Quick update. I bought it today. That and Assassin's Creed.

It looks a lot better than I remember it. Maybe it's the TV. Assassin's Creed is different too.
